Fraser Expected to Peak Today at South Fort

Tuesday, June 26, 2012 @ 10:25 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The Flood watch continues in Prince George as the River Forecast Centre predicts the Fraser at South Fort will rise to 9.5 metres today. That is below the 10.02 level reached last week, but still one metre above the flood mark.  The Fraser at South Fort was at 9.46 metres this morning.

There is a flood watch in effect for the Terrace region as rivers in the north‐west (Skeena, Bulkley and Nass Rivers and tributaries) are currently full, and additional rises are possible over the next few days, depending on how much rain occurs through the region. Currently there is more precipitation expected over areas west of Terrace, and river rises in tributaries along the lower Skeena River (from Terrace to Prince Rupert, possibly including the Kalum River) are expected to see the largest rises over the next several days.

The Bulkley River at Smithers is currently flowing at  a 5 year flow high , and has levelled off from rises over the past few days. Further rises are possible if rainfall is heavy in the watershed over the next few days.

The Skeena River at Usk is also at a 5 year  flow high and has receded slightly since yesterday. Additional rises are possible if rainfall is heavy in the watershed over the next few days.

All evacuation orders and alerts remain in place.
