Federal MP Lynne Yelich delivers the project funding
Prince George, B.C.- Initiatives Prince George will be receiving just over $400 thousand dollars from the Federal Government’s Western Economic Diversification fund.
The announcement was made this morning, on the steps of Prince George City Hall, by the Federal Minister in charge of WED, Lynne Yelich.
She says because of Prince George’s location, this community has the unique opportunity to “help develop strategies to increase exports, attract foreign investment and help businesses grow.”
Minister Yelich announced the money will be used over three years for “a trade and investment program to be delivered by Initiatives Prince George.”
Yelich says the project will increase exports and will help local businesses thrive and create jobs. She says IPG is already interviewing more than 130 Prince George companies to gather information on local erxport related sectors and their potential opportunities and limitations.
The sectors at the core of the project include, forestry, mining, energy, manufacturing, land management and construction. The information gathered will form the basis for a variety of activities including an export business forum, and a Prince George Trade show that will take place within a year. The events and activities will be promoted to international investors and exporters, and international trade missions.

Sounds like a strategy to extract as much raw resources as possible with the least amount of red tape and net benefit to the community from whence they came.
Hmmmm. But I thought IPG’s focus was shifting back to the downtown?
Dick Harris sure has lost weight.
Didnt IPG already collect most of this information from local business a number of years ago.
**This project will help local business thrive and create jobs**. When will we get the actual figures on the number of jobs created. I suspect if it is like most Government funded projects, we will never get any definitive information on the success (or lack of success) on this project.
Does this mean that IPG will survive the Core Review Process.???
