Teenager Critical Following Crash

Thursday, June 28, 2012 @ 10:35 AM

Prince George, B.C.- A 16 year old Prince George male  is in hospital in critical condition following this morning’s single vehicle crash on Highway 16 East.

According to the RCMP,   the crash occurred around 5:19 this morning. Calls to the RCMP communications Centre indicated, a single vehicle heading westbound on Highway 16 had gone over the embankment   just before the Yellowhead bridge.

When emergency responders arrived on scene, they found a male  in the Hyundai Accent, his seat belt still on. He was removed from the vehicle, and taken to University Hospital of Northern B.C.

The area was searched to ensure there were no other occupants in the vehicle, no one else was located, and investigators are confident the driver was the only person in the car.

The male is unlicensed and the car was registered to a family member.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene to gather evidence and determine the cause of the collision. It appears the vehicle went off road right and over a cement barrier just before the bridge. The vehicle rolled down the steep embankment, settling more than 100 metres from where it went off the highway. Speed and alcohol likely contributed to the collision.

Anyone with any information on this collision is asked to call the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-TIPS (8477), online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca, or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) using keyword "pgtips".
