Prince George, B.C.- The gabion diking along Farrell Street in Prince George will start coming down tomorrow and the evacuation order and alerts will be rescinded Saturday at 1:00, once safety inspections have been completed on impacted properties.
The Fraser River at South Fort George was at the 9.1m this morning, down from yesterday’s peak flow and is expected to continue to recede.
Vehicle traffic in the South Fort George area remains restricted, and both Paddlewheel and Cottonwood Island Parks remain closed.
The Regional District of Fraser Fort George has rescinded the evacuation alerts for Foreman Flats and the Shelley townsite.

Engineering saves the city!!!
LOL thats funny.. thanks for the laugh Mucker :)
This City should have egg on it’s face for the action they have taken this year. The river comes up in the spring and then it goes down; Just like clockwork. Mother Nature can not be controlled in this case and the over reaction was a blatant waste of money and services. The people who normally have water in the basement, had water again this year. Nothing changed this year because of dikes. We cannot have our lives disrupted because someone plays “chicken little” every year. They “expected” a lot more water this year because of the snow pack. I was an avid skier in 1972 and I can testify there was a lot more snow in the mountains in those years as well as in this city. My expert advice, had they asked, would have been “leave us alone and we’ll do some fishing”, like we have for the past 40 years and somehow managed to survive . Are we now going to put dykes along the Nechako because there is a remote possibility that there might be an ice jam this winter? Shari Green, who is “not prepared to gamble with Mother Nature”, should be wearing egg until at least next spring. What a ludicrous statement in regards to spring thaw.
