More People Working in P.G., but More Unemployed Too

Friday, July 6, 2012 @ 8:58 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The unemployment rate in Prince George last month was 6.9%, up from the 6% recorded in June of 2011, however, there were more people working.

Vincent Ferrao of Statistics Canada says there were 50,000 people in Prince George with jobs last month, compared to 48,900 in the same month a year ago. He says the employable work force has increased over that year and the number of folks without work also increased, which is why the unemployment rate has increased despite having more people on the job.

For the Cariboo region, the rate increased to 7.8% last month, up from 7.4% recorded in June of 2011.

Provincially, the rate dropped to 6.6%, down from the 7.2% recorded a year earlier,, and the National rate slipped slightly to 7.2% in June, down from the 7.4 recorded in the same month in 2011.

Pulp mills sure make this city stink….it is awful…wish someone would make them clean up a bit.

I hear there will be lots of jobs in PG when Enbridge comes online? They are going to open a propaganda office downtown soon too!
