Prince George, B.C. – An eyewitness to this morning’s fatal two-vehicle collision on Highway 16 east says it appears the driver of the car involved in the accident near Tabor Mountain may have been falling asleep at the wheel.

A Prince George woman and her husband who were travelling to Alberta were just two vehicles behind the eastbound pick-up that was involved in the crash. She tells Opinion 250 that the truck was proceeding in a normal fashion when it was hit by the westbound Mustang. The truck wound up in the ditch while the car exploded in flames almost immediately after impact, around 8 this morning.
The driver of the car was prounounced dead at the scene.   The two occupants of the pick-up, a man and a woman, were transported by ambulance to University Hospital of Northern BC, their condition unknown at this time. There were two occupants in the car as well but it is unclear how seriously injured the passenger was.

The Prince George woman says the Mustang was being followed by a Greyhound bus, whose driver told her that the car had been weaving all over the highway for some distance. The bus driver told the woman that he wanted to pass the Mustang but it was swerving so erratically that he decided not to attempt the pass. The Greyhound driver attempted to put out the fire in the car with his onboard extinguisher, but that proved futile due to the ferocity of the blaze.

Names and home towns of those involved are not available at this time.
