Williams Lake– Cariboo Fire Centre personnel have responded to over a dozen new fires in the past 24 hours. Many of the fires have remained small; however, there are two fires of note at this time.
There is a fire burning approximately 15 kilometres southwest of Chimney Lake that has grown to roughly 80 hectares in size. The winds this afternoon have challenged airtankers, which have been dropping retardant on the fire for most of the afternoon. Crews and equipment will be working on this fire through the night.
No structures are threatened by this fire at this time; however, the fire has crossed Enterprise Road and the Cariboo Fire Centre is asking the public not to use the road at this time.
There is another fire that is estimated at three hectares in size that is highly visible from Williams Lake. The fire is located about 15 kilometres west of Williams Lake on the west side of the Fraser River. Airtankers have dropped retardant on this fire and there are currently eight personnel and one piece of heavy equipment on-site.
