It’s too bad someone had to get hurt but what is it going to take to get people to realise that you shouldn’t be operating non-licensed vehicles on the street?
Charge the parents!
This didn’t happen because it was an unlicensed vehicle being operated on the street.
What did the parents do NoWay? Did they force their little darlin onto the highway without looking?
ATVs …..
The following are some of issues with what happened, other than normal “rules of the road”.
1. Normal operating pressure of tires of 5psi or so is too low to drive with proper control on paved roads.
2. Unless an ATV is designed to carry a passenger, and most are not, there should not have been a passenger.
3. Unless they have a permit, it is against the law for the ATV to cross a highway.
What should the parents have done? Taught the kid how to take responsibility of riding an ATV.
Did they do it? Who knows?
How can one make sure they do it? Require a license to ride an ATV.
None of your issues had anything to do with the crash.
Thats normal for mosst comments on this site
So you think you can ride an ATV , Trailbike on a Public Road, it’s just illegal, that’s it ,no excuse and who pays for the Damage to the Pickup, I hope the Parents do. What happens if you drive a Car with no Plates down the Road, call the Cops they will tell how much your Fine will be.
“None of your issues had anything to do with the crash.”
A law of physics was challenged. Two solid bodies attempted to co-mingle their molecules while trying to occupy the same space at the exact same instant in time.
If either one of them had not been there on the road no physical conflict would have occurred. One body was there legally, whereas the other was not.
Not too difficult to figure out which one should have refrained from being there.
Gus, somebody is pulling your leg!
“Police say an ATV being operated by two young males, a 12 year old passenger, and the 16 year old driver, ENTERED ONTO THE HIGHWAY without looking into the path of an oncoming vehicle.”
They are not allowed on the highway … not even in the right of way which includes an unpaved part.
Yes, I know Prince George; maybe they were not crossing the highway. What I was actually referring to is that people, typilly farmers, an get special permits to cross highways if they hae or lease properties which are separated by a highway. Otherwise they are not allowed in the highway right of way.
The 100 milenewsrepoted as follows:
Charges under the Motor Vehicle Act have been laid against the driver of the ATV for Failing to Yield to Traffic AND OPERATING AN UNLICENSED VEHICLE…..
RCMP are warning operators of all terrain vehicles (ATV’s) to use extreme caution, be aware of your surroundings and to ABIDE BY THE MOTOR VEHICLE ACT when operating their vehicles this summer.”

They left the part of the MVA I was referring to out of the report above, Dragonmastger. Does this now meet your requirements?
I will repeat the link I have posted on here many times before.

The above link is to the Motor Vehicle (All Terrain) Act.
2 (1) Except as otherwise provided in this Act, a person must not operate or authorize or permit another person to operate an all terrain vehicle unless he or she holds a certificate of registration for that all terrain vehicle in the prescribed form and unless the prescribed identification is displayed on the machine.
(2) A person under the age of 16 years is not entitled to register an all terrain vehicle.
(3) A person under the age of 18 years is not entitled to register an all terrain vehicle unless he or she deposits with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia the written consent of his or her parent or guardian to the registration of the all terrain vehicle.
========================================
Perhaps that provides an adequate response (although on this site tha tmay not always work .. LOL) to the person who asked what parents have to do with this. By signing the consent the parents become responsible. Of course, by allowing the 16 year old to ride the ATV without meeting the law they too are still responsible since the 16 year old is a minor.
There are additional perting restric tion which wpuld apply even if the vehicle was registerd.
Anyway, looks like the kid/parent(s) are responsible for a $500 max fine and paying damages to the truck owner.
After this they may either smarten up or blame the law and forever hate police and the government because of their stupid rules. One never knows. All depends on how the parents handle it.
So, Dragonmaster, any wise words from you now?
The only reason the crash occurred was because the ATV “entered onto the highway without looking into the path of an oncoming vehicle”
Nothing else caused this crash bozo!
I think you should stay up all night researching all aspects of life on the planet earth. We will expect a full report at 0800.
You forgot ATV entered onto the highway illegally. Even if no crash occured it’s still an illegal act. Parents are responsible for the damage caused by this illegal act by a minor child. Not too hard to figure out!
DragonMaster–your totally correct, now that the smoking nazis have almost won the smoking battle they want to take up the anti ATV banner.
The cause of the accident was failing to look both ways before entering a traffic stream, the same thing could have happened on foot, on a bycicle, or in a Chevy volt .
The ATV was illegal to even be there in the first place.
without Rules we are in Trouble and the Rules state you can’t operate this Things on any Public Road, what is so hard to understand about that!
It’s only against the law, if you get caught. Or have an accident. Other than that, what else needs to be said? Nothing (people) will change.
“It’s only against the law, if you get caught”
The tree only falls in the woods if you are there to witness it.
Murder is not against the law if you do not get caught. The person was killed legally since the killer was not caught……
