Harley Enthusiasts Arrive For Fun Rally
Friday, July 20, 2012 @ 4:49 AM
Prince George, B.C. – People who like riding on two wheels as opposed to one, three, four or more and who enjoy riding Harley Davidson motorcycles specifically are gathered in Prince George for this weekend’s western regional Hog rally.
The motto of the Harley Owners group is basically “Ride and Have Fun” and that’s what friends and neighbours and folks from around Western Canada and the U.S. are here to do. Rhonda Rivers is the rally co-ordinator, and she says this is a very family-oriented event aimed at getting families and kids involved.
The weekend features bike rodeos with “slow” rides, water balloon tosses, a show ‘n shine, a poker run and all kinds of competitions and events with prizes. Also this year the organizers have contracted with Northcentral Motorsport Park to get use of their track so riders can see how fast their bikes will actually go.
Registration and a meet-and-greet were held last night. Today’s schedule includes bike races out at the track, a poker run, Biker Bingo, an observation run and many other events centred at the Civic Centre.
There is also a barbeque at the Harley dealership, with all money raised going to Muscular Dystrophy.
Saturday will feature a big parade, with all of the motorcycles parading through town, the show and shine and several other events at the Civic Centre. There is also a dinner and dance Saturday night.

Glad I’m out of town this weekend. Love the bikes but hate the noise some of them (maybe all of them) make. Maybe they will spend locally and buy some mufflers :)
If you don’t like the noise, maybe you should plan a week in a psych ward on something that will keep your mentality under check?
Are riders of other makes welcomed with open arms into the fraternity of H.D.?
Will they lift a hand in greeting to a passing fellow rider?
metalman.
Yeah, good question metalman. I’d ride with them if they let others in.
Metalman – the answer is NO on both counts.
Oh, and on a side note, I’ll believe “loud pipes save lives” when I see HD riders in hi vis vests and real helmets.
Welcome riders. It’s not all hillbillies & rednecks here.
Ah, time to lighten up (myself I mean)
I have never owned a Harley, they are not my style, but many prefer them.
I lift a hand to wave at all motorcyclists, most return the gesture, even some of the Harley riders.
Let the 1%ers have their exclusive clubs or gangs, most of us don’t care what machine you have, and a high percentage of us would consider any fellow rider a ‘brother’ or ‘sister’ simply because we indulge in the same passion. H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) exists because of marketing genius, they bring many people together as family under the banner of a single brand, at once creating loyalty. passion, and fellowship around that brand.
Brilliant.

Uturn.. why should bikes be allowed to be so noisy but cars cant.. the law of noise should apply to all. Including guys on their noisy toys.. how long would a fellow driving around with open headers on his car last until pulled over and ticketed ?
I have not been woken up at 5 am from any cars or trucks but have been buy some bikes due to the sound.. do you consider that okay.. or do you think everyone that doesnt like them has a mental issue ?
Ah, get a GRIP! The stereo type of a bike rider is so WRONG! I have a son, with a customized Harley; too bad he’s in the bush working 14hr days, while this party is on. He would so be there!
I’m probably mistaken but don’t the Harley’s come stock with the pipes that make all the rumble. Would that not make them legal then? They have to alter them to make them quiet. Cars and trucks have to be modified to have straight pipes which then makes them illegal. Just saying, that is my understanding of it
I regards to the comment about Harley riders not waving or helping a non Harley rider could not be further from the truth . I as well as lots of my friends ride Harley’s . Some others ride metric cruisers and they will all tell you the same thing . There is one group ( 1% not included) that refuse to wave and that is Goldwing riders . I travel a lot and 9 out of 10 gold wingers appear to actually look away when I wave . Never had a Harley rider not lift a hand when I was on a metric bike .
And yes to answer the question , HOG rally is open to Harley riders only . That is not a stuck up thing , it is a Harley Owners Group . It is an event for Harley owners . And it is not open to all Harley owners either . You need to be a hog member . Just owning a Harley does not make you a member.
its straight pipes that make the noise.. they are supposd to have a baffel to reduce the noise but most take them out or make it so they are always wide open. Its easy to check to make sure they work.. all a cop has to due is slide their night stick into the exhaust with the bike off.. if they run into a restriction the pipe is legal.. if they dont..its because the baffel has been comprimised.
either way.. hope all who come to the event have a great time and enjoy our city.. and all drivers keep an eye out for them for safety sake :)
People with hyperacusis and tinnitus (bordering on Meniere’s disease) are painfully distressed by the detonation like sounds that can come upon them suddenly from the pipes of any make of motorcycle which uses this feature as an identity and sales gimmick.
Usually sufferers are wearing hearing aids which amplify that racket even more. It would be nice if the riders would show some consideration for the world around them and the people living in it, but of course they do not think that they could be a problem worse than just a nuisance.
Bornandbred, I think your solution is a good one!
Ya. I hate ppl who wear perfume. Shud live in the woods.
Ya. I hate ppl who wear perfume. Shud live in the woods.
Ya. I hate ppl who wear perfume. Shud live in the woods.
“I hate ppl who wear perfume.”
You mean women????? :-)
I dont wave when riding. Hell you woundnt talk to me in the ”Harley shop” but when i get on my bike you cant stop with that stupid fucken wave.
I live how everyone complains about loud bikes . I never hear anyone complaining about these big diesel trucks with cracked open fuel pumps ,screaming turbos and 6 inch exhaust pipes that rattle windows when they roar by puking huge clouds of black smoke into the air .
Or the big magna flow duel exhaust has power trucks roaring around . They are much louder and far more obnoxious than my Harley . Perhaps all the haters out there are driving these trucks and are trying to take the focus off themselves . Just a thought hmmmm .
I ride a harley, I wave at anyone on ANY bike and Oh Well, You bumpinto me on my bike cause you didn’t hear/see me and I loose a leg or die! LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES plain and simple!
Loud pipes feed insecure egos. Defensive riding and visibility saves lives. I guess sitting at the red light and brapping the throttle over and over makes you safer, or is that untuned POS having trouble idling? Hmmmmmm
Loud pipes can save lives – no doubt. One of the more dangerous situations for a rider is when they are beside a car who makes a lane change without a proper shoulder check. Loud pipes let them know you’re there. Other than that, on the highway you can’t hear a Harley coming as the sound is projected out the back, so on the highway, visibility saves lives. And while I don’t think the noise/safety trade off is there for loud pipes, I would much rather see loud stereos installed in POS cars banned. A harley rides down the highway and he doesn’t vibrate your house, some of these car stereos do.
As for the waving thing, in town, some do, some don’t. On the highway, almost all do. I think when you’re on the open road, you’re dealing with true motorcycle riders who if you broke down, no matter what their brand, would stop and help. And when you meet at rest stops, will stand and B.S. about bikes in general.
In town, you’re dealing with the rider who polishes his bike, takes it out once a week – on a Sunny day, rides to be seen, and then parks it again. They would probably be your stuck up 1%.
In the interest of full disclosure, I ride a metric sport touring bike, but if I had money I didn’t need, I’d own a harley just to ride it on Sundays because I think they look and sound cool. But, my wife wanted a bike too, so it was a choice of two Honda’s or one Harley, and you can imagine how it went when I suggested she could always ride on the bike :)
I mean on the back of the bike.
How can loud pipes save lives.. at a intersection it puts blind people in harms way as it drowns out the audible crossing signal. It also drowns out sirens so may take longer for a fire engine or ambulance to get to the emergency which could cost a life. This “straight pipes saves lives” is just an excuse to try to be cooooool…but its just plain rude.. as for saying big trucks are loud they can be..but they dont make noise continuously while running..only when they hammer on the gas… the straight pipe bikes make the ear shattering noise anytime they are running..
Blind spot monitors/detectors are becoming standard equipment on many more cars and trucks every year – soon they will be standard equipment like ABS, airbags, seat belts and Stability Control.
Will extremely noisy motorbikes become illegal then?
No, it’s a macho ego boosting thing and there will be a lot of resistance!
‘… the straight pipe bikes make the ear shattering noise anytime they are running..”
That’s a fact!
Perfumes are already banned in hospitals and medical offices, Whelen!
Obviously, one can still hope!
Welcome to everyone associated with the Harley Owners Group. We hope you have a great time here. Enjoy all we have to offer. Spend as much money as you can on lodging, food and entertainment. Thank you for choosing Prince George for the location of your Western Regional Hog Rally.
I do ride a Harley.(1996 Softail) I love the sound. I do wear hearing aids, but not when I am on my Harley. My pipes are probably too loud. But, I would probably modify them if I had to. My bike has set off sensitive car alarms just riding by.
I am not currently a HOG member, but was in the early 1990’s. I do not belong to a gang or club. But I do participate in organized rides like the Salvation Army Toy Run, Ride 2012 last week from Winnipeg to Vancouver and other fund raisers I like to support. I would love to take my bike to the drag strip to see what it would do in the quarter mile.
I’m 60 years old and I do wave at most everyone or nod to acknowledge another rider.(in town or on the highway) I always stop to offer assistance every time I see a bike pulled over on the highway.
I love everything about my Harley. Other bikes are amazing, but just don’t do it for me. Sorry about the sound. But it is what so many other bike makers try to copy. Similar, but not the same unfortunately.
My Harley puts a smile on my face and it’s worth it. My Corvette does the same thing. I am very fortunate. No, I am not going through a mid life crisis. I have had motorcycles off and on throughout my life since age 14. Ps. Yup, I even got tatoo’s. Does that make me bad?
Pretty obvious that those who have never ridden a motorcycle have NO clue! But sure glad they have such insight into the safety of those of us who actually ride nothing like having an opinion on something you have no insight on!
no wonder Harley drivers have bad rep.. with ignorant riders like pgmakesmecray bring a bad name to them all.
as for chester..he kind of sums it up nicely with his statement..’ I havehearing aids but dont wear them when I ride. but I love the sound… well if you really love the sound then why dont you like to listen to it ?
Hope you tools realize that all the HOG guys are out having a good time & NOT sitting in their kitchens reading your whiny crap.
Nothing better than riding in the rain, enjoying your kitchen weak sauce…lolololol
Fail
Weaksauce:
Whats Up ?
Is your bike on the kitchen floor with stick-em notes on the parts ?
