Safe Fun The Theme At Billy Barker Days

Quesnel, B.C. – The 39th annual Billy Barker Days festival, celebrating the historic Cariboo Gold Rush, is underway this weekend in the Gold Pan city.

 

Literally thousands of people from throughout the region are expected to pour into Quesnel for the family-oriented community event. There are all sorts of activities for all ages during the weekend’s festivities.

 

However Quesnel RCMP will be out in force to make sure everyone has a safe weekend. Constable Krista Vrolyk says the detachment will have an enhanced presence. Extra police resources will be patrolling the streets and venues to keep things safe, and there will be special emphasis placed on targeting liquor-related offences including open liquor in public, public intoxication and impaired driving.

 

Police will be conducting traffic road checks throughout Quesnel, and officers will maintain zero tolerance for things like lack of seatbelt use and aggressive and distracted driving.

 

Motorists should not that Highway 97, from 5.1 kilometres south of Quesnel to 2.6 kilometres south of Quesnel, will be closed from 9am to 1pm today for the Billy Barker Days parade.   A detour will be in effect.
