You Can Still Attend CSR Workshop

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 @ 4:17 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Roughly fifty city residents have decided to drop by the Civic Centre this week to learn more about the Core Services Review and the CSR survey being conducted by KPMG.
Unfortunately we don’t have word on the number of people who have filled out the survey on-line.

Both residents and employees of the City have the opportunity to fill out the survey and comment on what is good and not so good about city services and the cost of providing them.
And, contrary to earlier information, the online survey will remain posted on the City website until august 3rd. You can find it at http://www.princegeorge.ca/cityhall/mayorcouncil/csr/csrsurvey/pages/default.aspx

The public workshop is being held at 6pm Wednesday at the Civic Centre. Those who have not pre-registered will NOT be turned away.

poor public participation is no surprise, it is ridiculous to conduct surveys or public workshops during the summer months I don’t think Citizen engagement was ever intended to be a valuable part of the core review process

Let’s be honest, it doesn’t matter when the sessions were being held, people just don’t show up to these kinds of things, despite having lots of time to criticise the process on sites like this.

I registered and will be there. How about others? JB? DNHey?

As I say often, City Hall does not know how to engage people. It is a foreign process to them when one compares it to some other communities.

In this case, the first thing that would be required is to explain the process to people so that people can understand what exactly it is about and how their input will be used.

When I show up there tomorrow night, I really have not got a clue of what will be presented to me and how I will be able to interact.

I received an e-mail telling me that I have been registered and they encourage me to review the online service profiles prior to attendance at the workshop.

They use the term “workshop”. That conjures up multiple tables with people discussing issues and someone summarizing the key issues for the entire group.

Those who facilitate that kind of event typically know exactly what they are doing. Those processes are so easily manipulated, just as the survey is.

But heck, I figure that I need to go just to counter JB’s type of comments.

BTW, this and other blogs are far better opportunities to pick up the thinking of people …… of course, after a while it becomes evident that most really do not think ….. so who cares …. ;-)

Don’t let me sway you. It sounds like you weren’t going to bother showing up either. Let us know how many people did attend. I’ll guess somewhere in the 50 range.

I think they had 50 registrants and were expecting more.

I think we are going to get a mixture of people: those who registered and are there and those who did not register but will be accepted as party crashers unless they do not have enough seats and it is an interactive session.

I doubt all those who registered will end up coming.

My wife got really, really upset when she asked if I registered her and I said no ….. LOL
