Now THAT’S something to see!

I wonder how many travelers will be dead trying to pass them around corners and in poor sight zones on monday?

Huh?

Well, a lot depends on how long this convoy is and whether it pulls over from time to time to let other vehicles pass. It’s true that convoys can be annoying. I once got stuck behind a US National Guard convoy in rural Idaho (around Grangeville) and that was really painful.

What old white guy is getting at is that convoys are often a good deal slower than other traffic and keep together so that it is difficult to pass individual vehicles. The result is that you either go slowly behind the convoy or try to pass the whole thing, or at any rate multiple vehicles if there is a gap, when it isn’t safe to be in the oncoming lane for so long.

my post was so nice I figured I should make it thrice.

And yes Mr Poser is correct, if we are to expect an old military vehicle convoy, the chances of them maintaining highway speed is pretty slim. We have had our fair share of fatalities on that stretch of highway the past few years, its well known that many drivers dont have patience, therefor it could be a recipe for disaster.

Speaking of which highway 97 north really needs a passing lane for the south bound traffic at the Salmon Forest Service Road incline. There is no passing lane from Bear Lake to Salmon Valley for over 50km, and at the Salmon Forest Service Road a loaded truck is often down to 60kph and people go crazy and make dangerous passes in blind spots not able to wait until the Johnson Farm Passing lane this side of Salmon Valley.

Military convoys are supposed to leave enough space between vehiles so that faster traffic can pass. They alsos have MP’s to control the convoy
Hope they have a service vehicle in the convoy and a flat bed or tow vehicles.
Cheers

Retired, this is not a military convoy, its is a convoy of old military vehicles. There is a difference.

One would assume that these are American Military Vehicles, especially considering that they are going to Alaska.

How many accidents and deaths have occured since the trek began. Probably none. How many will occur between Quesnel and Alaska. Probably none.

By the look of their time frame they must be moving on the road really well.Whats the big deal if it takes you another minute to get somewhere.I saw them in 100 Mile House today so they are doing good.

Quick! Someone organize a protest!

Convoys like this usually have the forethought to space themselves out. The LAST thing they want is to have untoward publicity for such a trip. Shouldn’t be any different than ordinary traffic. I wish them well on their way.

A well-spaced convoy, NOT!!! ….. and great target for old fighter planes … ;-)
