Local Club Cooks Up Tantalizing Way To Bolster Gaming Grants
Prince George, BC – The Prince George Yellowhead Rotary Club has gone to great lengths in hopes of cooking up some new funds for their community projects and donations…
All the way to Georgia, in fact. The club purchased an authentic Lang Smoker from the US state last spring, with members honing their skills to offer up mouth-watering southern fare at private BBQs, corporate functions and Canada Day in the Park this summer.
The club hopes to raise between $7500 and $10-thousand dollars. President, Scott Hamilton, says because of the restrictions applied to gaming grants and uncertainty over actually receiving a grant award, the club has been seeking out new ways to raise fund that can be donated by to community charities without those strict limitations.
Next up for the crew of the ‘Yellowhead Smok’n Good Meat’ is the centennial PGX from August 9-12th. Residents will be able to try out the ‘rotary rub’ and ‘secret’ sauce on baby back ribs, as well as baked beans and chili.

They could have had a custom grill/smoker designed and built right here in PG.
Not only that, but I’ll bet that local business would have contributed in order to keep the cost down.
Looking forward to trying their ribs at the PGX though.
metalman.
Good for them! It used to be if your group was willing to host dances and other events there was no end of fund-raising they could do. Then the Government stepped in and schemed to push through legalized gambling with the promise of funding to these same groups. I hope the Rotary Club is very successful and other groups can find new ways to reward their own hard work.
