P.G. Transit Growing

Monday, July 30, 2012 @ 4:00 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Transit system is rolling right along and making gains.

According to a report to be presented to Prince George City Council this evening, the P.G. Transit system saw it’s revenue increase by 14% and it’s ridership increase by 12% last year, over the same period in 2010.

The report also notes that total operating costs were up by 1% over the previous year, but that operating costs were still 4% below budget.

The most popular route is the UNBC/ 15th  Avenue route which carries 22.22% of all bus riders.

Also on the agenda for Council tonight, a couple of public hearings. One calls for the rezoning of a parcel on Redwood to allow for the subdivision of a lot. The other requests the closure of a road as the piece dedicated for Westcrest Drive was not suitable because of the topography and the road was relocated.

There is a hearing set for a variance of a development permit to allow for an increased height on a proposed three floor 20 unit condo project on Guest Street. The maximum allowable height for a principle  structure is 12 meters, and the request asks  to have that increased to 15 meters.

Time to jack up the rates!

Time to look at increasing service. Clearly people want to use transit if it is available and if costs are below budget, there should be room for a bit of expansion.
