Northern Gateway Cross Examination Phase in Prince George This Fall
Wednesday, August 1, 2012 @ 3:59 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The cross examination phase of the Joint Review Panel’s review of the proposed Northern Gateway project will be in Prince George October 1st to November 10th.
It will be the second stop of three locations, the first being Edmonton from September 4th to 28th, and Prince Rupert November 12th to December 18th.
The Joint Review Panel selected the three locations because they are centrally located, have adequate facilities and reasonable transportation access and are relatively close to the proposed project and are readily accessible by all parties taking part in the hearing process.
The Panel also notes the locations “will allow for appropriate hearing facilities that are safe, of an adequate size and can logistically and technologically accommodate a hearing with many participants.”
The JRP says it recognizes that some parities may be unable to attend the hearings in person because of financial or logistical issues. The JRP says it will work to accommodate the participation through webcasts, teleconferencing and video conferencing wherever possible.
The District of Kitimat has written a letter to the Joint Review Panel expressing it’s disappointment that it is not hosting one of the sessions, especially since Kitimat will be the port where the bitumen is loaded on to tankers, and condensate off loaded to the pipeline.
The locations for the final arguments on the proposed twin pipeline have not yet been determined.

Hmmmmm silly of them not having one in Kitimat.
Edmonton????? Prince Rupert?????? its not even near the proposed Pipeline.
I can see it already, Edmonton, yeah sure go ahead. In Prince Rupert, hmmmm I dont care.
Actually, Prince Rupert council, like many in BC, have come out strongly against the pipeline so it is unlikely the response will be indifference. Also Kitimat and Prince Rupert are close to each other.
I have no concern about the location of the hearings, but I am very concerned that they are a sham. The Conservatives have already come out in support of the project so the review process has already been tainted,
Very True @ Forward Thinker 2.
“…will allow for appropriate facilities that are safe…”
Safe.
Isn’t that just so very tell-tale of how chapped people are about this sham.
“The Conservatives have already come out in support of the project so the review process has already been tainted”
The Conservatives, as most governments, talk with forked tongue ……

“…. in the 2008 election, the Conservatives said they would not permit export of bitumen from the oil sands for processing elsewhere â which might be justifiable on commercial grounds.
“On the other hand, the proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline, which the government favours, would facilitate the export of that same bitumen to China.”
They may actually be incapable of connecting the dots. ;-)
Then there is the Nexen deal … or no deal?
http://www.ottawacitizen.com/business/China+CNOOC+giant+Canada+Nexen+billion/6974505/story.html
“Chinaâs top offshore oil producer CNOOC Ltd has agreed to buy Canadaâs Nexen Inc for about $15.1 billion U.S. in one of the most ambitious acquisitions by a Chinese company to date that may test Canadaâs tolerance of foreign takeovers.
“The deals in Canada havenât yet awakened the political opposition seen in the United States in 2005 when CNOOC bid $18.5 billion for U.S oil and gas producer Unocal Corp. The backlash killed that deal, upsetting Sino-U.S. relations.
“But Canada can review and block any foreign investments worth more than $312 million Cdn, a paltry sum in the global mergers game, if it thinks a deal is not in Canadaâs best interests.
“It most noticeably exercised that right in 2010 when it blocked Anglo-Australian mining giant BHP Billitonâs $39-billion hostile takeover of Potash Corp., the worldâs top fertilizer producer.”
So let us see whether the Conservatives wake up or not in the interest of the country they are supposed to be guarding.
I mean, why have an armed force when dollars will do for a smash and grab operation?
gus: “Chinaâs top offshore oil producer CNOOC Ltd has agreed to buy Canadaâs Nexen Inc for about $15.1 billion U.S. in one of the most ambitious acquisitions by a Chinese company to date that may test Canadaâs tolerance of foreign takeovers.”
Ah yes, Nexen, a good old Canadian company… whose assets are 75% out of the country. Seems that we don’t have a problem with Canadian companies owning foreign assets, but when someone wants to buy a ‘Canadian’ company like Nexen, it’s another opportunity for people to get their shorts in a bunch.
if only it was a simple as you put it johnny. china wants its’ own workers c/w wage limit and safety program. Both of which are below canadian standards.
I’ve heard that. Do you have a link to some credible source which backs up that claim? Blog sites don’t count.
Nexen bid fuels foreign holding debate

In the U.S., the deal must pass a review by the governmentâs inter-agency Committee for Foreign Investment, known as CFIUS, which focuses on national security.
The approval process in both countries is complicated by allegations of insider trading by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission against a Hong Kong entity lilnked to CNOOC that purchased $14.3-million in Nexen shares four days before the CNOOC bid was made public on July 23. The allegations are fuelling mistrust that Chinese state-backed investors arenât playing by free-market rules. In 2005, Vancouver-based money manager Bill Wheeler sued state-controlled China National Petroleum Corp., alleging it profited by trading on insider information in its US$4.18-billion takeover of Calgary-based Petro Kazakhstan Inc.
