July 2012 Warm and Dry

Prince George, B.C., – July 2012 in Prince George will go into the record books as warm and dry.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Jim Steele notes in his monthly report that the month did get off to a bit of a cool and wet start, but after 4 days, summer kicked in.
 
According to Steele’s report “Afternoon temperatures managed to reach or exceed 20 degrees every day from the 5th onwards. There were 16 days with daytime highs at 25 or higher.”
 
Last year the warmest day in July was 23 degrees.

The warm conditions boosted the mean temperatures just over a degree and a half above normal.
 
On the precipitation side of things, the first 3 days brought the majority of the precipitation with almost 18 mm. The remainder of the month was very dry with the grand total for the month at 29.3 mm, less than half the normal for the month. Last year, July brought a whopping 112 mm of rain.
 
Into the record book, July 2012 will show warm and dry. 
 
Temperatures
  • Average daily high of 24.1 was above the normal of 22.1 degrees C.
  • Average daily low of 9.2 was above the normal of 8.8 degrees C. 
  • Mean temperature of 16.7 was above the normal 15.5 degrees C.
  • Warmest Day on the 20th with a maximum temperature of 30.0 degrees
  • Coolest day on the 6th with an overnight minimum of 4.4 degrees
 
Precipitation
  • Total precipitation of 29.3 mm was 46% of the normal of 63.5 mm.  
  • Measurable precipitation on 8 days well below the normal of 14 days
  • Greatest rainfall one day 11.7 mm on the 2nd
