Woman Sentenced For Fatal

Friday, August 3, 2012 @ 6:26 AM
Prince George, B.C.- It has been a long two  and a half years since 48 year old Stanley Heavysides was killed on a sidewalk along Ospika Boulevard at Ferry Avenue.   He had been  struck by an SUV driven by Sandra Cassidy just before 8 p.m. on January 30, 2010.

71 year old Sandra Cassidy has now been sentenced to 18 months in jail and given a five year driving prohibition on her conviction.

Her lawyers had requested a lenient sentence given her age, but Crown pressed for two years behind bars.

What has age go to do with it? Her driving caused the death of a person walking on a sidewalk. Lenient sentence, because of her age- not in my mind.

She was also impaired at the time, but that part was dropped because she said she went home and had a drink to calm her nerves!!!!!!

She’ll be released in 6 months. Yawn. Feel sorry for the relatives.

The family has to grieve over this murder the rest of their lives and the murderer gets a slap on the wrist. Pathetic for sure. I could not believe she will be allowed to drive again. THats like placing a gun inher hand. The worst part is if this happens again this sentence will be used again as an example and more seniors will get lighter sentences from it.. The judge should be fired on the spot

I’ve always thought that reckless driving (which includes not stopping at stop signs or crosswalks, IMO)is akin to murder. I know the law doesn’t see it that way, but to me, this sentence is a joke. She should never drive again. I don’t care what her excuse was. There are no excuses for operating a weapon in a dangerous manner, and a car can be a weapon when not operated properly.

Although it has been many years since I last saw him, I remember Stanley as a genuinely nice guy, who enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Glad to see that the driver of the car is being punished in some way.
I hope the death of a man weighs heavily on her mind.
