Hazelton  – two-time Olympic medallist wrestler Carol Huynh has won another

medal for Canada at the 2012 London Olympic Summer Games.

 

Huynh captured a bronze medal today with a victory in the women’s 48-

kilogram freestyle over Senegal’s Isabelle Sambou. It was one of two

bronze-medal matches in her weight category. The other saw American

Clarissa Kyoko Mei Ling Chun defeat Ukraine’s Irini Merleni. Huynh lost

the semifinal match earlier to Hitomi Obara of Japan. Obara went on to

capture the gold by defeating Azerbaijan’s Mariya Stadnyk, who took

silver.

 

Huynh, who was born and raised in Hazelton, now trains in Calgary. She

was one of Canada’s big success stories at the 2008 Beijing Olympic

Summer Games, winning one of Canada’s three gold medals
