Crews work on sound system following heavy downpour and high winds
Prince George, B.C.- The 100th edition of the PGX opened with a blast from Mother Nature.
The thunderstorm that ripped through the City earlier today, packed wind that tore sponsor banners from the chain link fencing around the Exhibition grounds, and nearly ripped the Silver Stetson Show tent from its moorings. As it was, there was so much rain and hail, there were serious concerns about the sound system.
At 7:00 p.m. the decision was made that the planned 54-40 show would go ahead.
Early fair goers would find the midway wasn’t ready. Westcoast Amusements didn’t have sufficient time between their last engagement and the start of the PGX to have all the rides up and ready for customers. The situation improved throughout the evening, and the full midway will be ready for tomorrow.
The 4-H competitors had their animals in place and ready for judging. Sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, rabbits and cattle are on display.

There is no shortage of exhibits celebrating the centennial of the fair, including one which features artefacts from each decade of the PGX’s life.
That detailed exhibit is laid out in the gymnastics building adjacent to Heritage Lane.
