Unemployment Holds Steady in P.G.

Prince George, B.C.- The unemployment rate in Prince George last month was the same as it was in July of last year, 6.6%. Statistics Canada says there were 1,000 employment gains in Prince George last month.
As for the Cariboo region, the unemployment rate in July was 8.1%, up from the 7.5% recorded in the same month a year ago. The increase would have been much higher had their not been an increase of 5100 jobs.
Provincially, the unemployment rate slipped to 7%, down from the 7.3% recorded in July of 2011.
Nationally, the rate held at 7.3% compared to July of 2011.
Stats Canada spokesperson Jason Gilmore, says Alberta continues to have the strongest employment growth, at 2.2%, but B.C., with a growth of 1.5% is among the group of provinces which is above the national rate.
