Speeding Motorcyclist Pursued by RCMP Helicopter

Friday, August 10, 2012 @ 2:54 PM

This is a photograph of the 2012 Ducati Motorcycle seized after a 1.5 hour flight from police on the 9th of August 2012.Prince George, B.C.- We know this story   is not the result of something that  happened in the "250", however, it is one which  everyone will be,  or is already, talking about so we thought we would share it with  you.

Burnaby  RCMP  say  that yesterday, around 5:30 p.m., the RCMP’s Air One helicopter observed a motorcycle driving in a dangerous manner while crossing the Pitt River Bridge.

Air One maintained visual contact with the motorcycle which was travelling at speeds in excess of 150 kilometres per hour on the Lougheed Highway and later in excess of 200 kilometres per hour on the Trans Canada Highway.

Police vehicles attempted to stop the motorcycle several times but the rider kept speeding away. In order to protect the motoring public, all ground units were backed off and the pursuit was maintained by Air One. The pursuit took the rider and Air One through several Lower Mainland communities, including Coquitlam, Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond, and Vancouver.

Just before 7:00 pm the motorcycle was observed pulling into the underground parking lot of the Metropolis at Metrotown. Ground units then moved in and were able to locate the driver of the motorcycle as he attempted to flee in an SUV being operated by a female. The SUV was pulled over shortly after it left the Metropolis at Metrotown by a Vancouver City Police unit.

One 2012 black Ducati Motorcycle was seized from the parking lot of the Metropolis at Metrotown and a 2006 Range Rover SUV was towed after the arrest of the occupants.

Charges of Dangerous Driving and Criminal Flight from Police are being recommended against one 29 year old male of Port Coquitlam, B.C. His name is not being released pending the swearing of charges against him.

The driver of the SUV is not facing charges.

The Burnaby RCMP Traffic Section is investigating.

Pure idiocy . This is the type of stuff that gives the rest of the responsible riders a bad name .

I agree. While we whine and complain about cagers showing no respect, we buzz their doors off and wonder why they don’t like us.

Doesn’t matter what they’re driving, this is just another driver who doesn’t think the law applies to them. Just like that foolish 16 year old who piled in to another vehicle on 97 at 22cnd. You teach your kids how to drive safely, sometimes it all goes out the window as soon as the key is turned. And if the parent teaches bad driving habits, like not stopping at stop signs, cutting corners, not signalling lane changes, ad nauseum, what’s the kid learning?

what! no snipers in that chopper.

That was one expensive bust huh?

Big Brother is watching, don’t pick your nose.
metalman.

I just hope they convict him on about 101 charges with sentencing to run consecutively but I guess that will never happen.

I think they need to focus more on the guys pulling horse trailers. Every damn crazy I encountered on my recent trip to Vancouver area was pulling a horse trailer, passing on blind corners, tailgating aggressively, weaving in and out of traffic in bumper to bumper traffic… no consideration for their cargo or other traffic on the road. Three separate individuals come to mind… the only bad drivers I seen on the whole road trip.
