Family Day a Hit At The PGX

Prince George, B.C. – A mix of sun, cloud and t-shirt temperatures welcomed literally thousands of people who took in the Prince George Exhibition Saturday.
Folks of all ages were treated to a host of activities and displays, everything from a Johnny Cash impersonator (pictured to
the right) to a Team Penning competition, Firefighter Games to the petting pens. There were square dancers, a train ride displays of homemade crafts, quilts, preserves, clothing and other items showing the ingenuity of those who still take the time to do things slowly, properly and with care.
One of the more impressive places to visit was the Heavy Horse barn featuring several teams of draft horses. There was one big guy in there who dwarfed all of the humans who came by to have a look. His name is “Cap” (in the photo to the left) and although
we don’t know how many hands tall he is, let’s just say that boy is a monster.
There are several events taking place during the exhibition at the Round Up Arena, on the other side of CN Centre, including Team Penning and Bull Riding. The Team Penning competition was a lot of fun to watch as teams of three riders have to pick all of the cows wearing a similar number out of a crowd of several cows, and then herd them down to the other end of the arena and into a pen. (pictured to the right). It’s a timed event, co-ordinated between horse, rider and the rest of the team, and some of the contestants
displayed amazing abilities at getting the job done.
There was also time to just stand around and do some jawin’ about the many pieces of equipment that are on site for the Exhibition, including the tractors. (jawin’ pictured in
photo to the left). Could be these ole’ boys were talking about the tractor parade that’s taking place tomorrow, starting at 9 in the morning at Pine Centre, making its way to the Exhibition Grounds for the final day of the 100th anniversary of the PGX.

Seems like a good time was had by all.
I was otherwise engaged so didnt attend this year, however glad to see that it was a successful exhibition.
I was thinking of attending BUT the three dollar parking and nearly forty dollar admission for me and the kids kept me away.
I hate to be negative but it’s like Pine Center charging parking admission to park and shop.
Sorry PGX or whatever it is now but my dollars will be well spent elsewhere.
The total number of people at the PGX during the peak ours is considerably higher than at the Pine Centre. So, it is not the same situation at all.
There is no fee for parking during events at CN Centre other than to get preferred spots near the building.
Look at parking at the PGX in the same light. Want to be close? You may pay for that convenience.
Don’t want to pay, park along the street. It is allowed and a lot of other people do it.
At the PNE, CNE (Toronto), and CCE(Ottawa) people who live near the venues rent out their driveways and lawns to park. A once a year event with considerably higher attendance than any other events has that kind of result. Get used to it and consider yourslf lucky that you live in a smaller community. :-)
Wait, you had to pay to park at the PGX parking lot?
Three dollars is not a lot of money to park your car at the PGX….what’s three dollars? A medium sized bag of “Cheetos” is $3.99 and “Dangerously Cheesy” as well.
