Conifex Records $2.4M Loss in 2nd Quarter

Friday, August 17, 2012 @ 3:56 AM
Prince George, B.C.- Conifex Timber limited is reporting a net loss of $2.4 million for the second quarter of 2012.

That is an improvement over the  first quarter of the yer when the company reported a net loss of $6.5 million and better than the same period last year, when the company reported a net loss of $3.6 million.

The lumber segment generated $55.8 million in revenue, an 18% increase over the first quarter. The gains were largely the result of improved lumber prices. Shipment of Conifex produced lumber totalled 112 million board feet, a 3% decline from the previous quarter.

Production volume and costs during the recent quarter were hampered by the planned maintenance downtime taken at both mills to undertake activities related to the mitigation of workplace hazards and the enhancement of safety and risk awareness measures with our employees. The Company estimates costs associated with these initiatives resulted in an expense of approximately $1 million during the second quarter of 2012.

Good news to hear this. Hope all these companies have the same results and ALL loose more money next quarter. Made my Friday morning start out good seeing that.
These greedy companies/corporations deserve to be driven broke.
Soon the HST will be extinquished along with the FULL contingent of the LIE berals. Then the NDP can give us back our province and make these corporations PAY WHAT THEY OWE.

yep and the corporation shuts the doors and then people like you will wonder why your not working and the value of your house plumets.

mattyc :
What do you do for a living ? Or are you posting this from inside a rubber room ?

I don’t like how some corporations treat there people either, but to hope they are driven broke, shutdown, and hold them in such contempt for the HST,is just assinine. They provide employment so people can pay there mortgage, pay the bills, buy gas and groceries, raise there kids.Mattyc, the HST will eventually disappear,we will have an election and the NDP may form the next government, but to say we will be better off is a mighty stretch of the imagination.

I get the distinct impression that mattyc does not work nor has he ever held a job.

I don’t think I’ve seen anything so ignorant as wishing hundreds of people unemployed to spite some lumber companies.

I am self employed in the home reno business. I am always busy. I work for cash. There is no shortage of people that want to pay cash for jobs done. So yes I do work.

“I am self employed in the home reno business. I am always busy. I work for cash. There is no shortage of people that want to pay cash for jobs done. So yes I do work.”

So you’re one of those who are not paying their ‘fair share’. That’s just too funny.

Matty provide your business name on here to remind me to never procure your services.. A true entreprenuer with any economic brain would not be so arrogant.. People who work at these evil corporations drive the housing market in which provides your means.

In the home reno busines you probaly own a vehicle made by ford, chev, dodge, toyota, ect.. (Corporations) You fill your vehicle with.. shell, chevron, petro, esso ect.. (Corporations.) You buy your suplies from Home Depot, Rona, Home Hardware.. (Coprorations). You buy your lumber that came from Canfor, Conifex, Dunkley, Sinclair, West Fraser (Corporations)

If you dont like corporations.. Stop being a consumer then your wish will come true.

This is the same guy to brags about going to Alberta to avoid sales tax. Total hypocrite.

When someone works for cash and doesnt pay their share of taxes they are stealing every time they drive on taxpayer roads or use any taxpayer funded services. Poeple who avoid taxes are leaches.

It is exactly this type of thinking that is wrong with our world. See how tax avoidance and no one paying their share worked out for Greece.

Even if you dont work for a corporation the people that pay for your no doubt substandard services likely do. If you cant connect the dots…..

I worked for a lumber company for many years here. When they say they lost money on a quarter, what they mean is they projected so much profit for that quarter and they didn’t make the projected profit. They are still making money just not as much as they projected.

Same old BS, work harder guys we are loosing money.

Potholes,

You obviously do not understand all the rules and regulations that a public company that is listed on a stock exchange must follow when making their quarterly and annual reports. Conifex is listed on the VSE i believe under the symbol CFF if memory serves.

==================================

btw hopefully someone from CRA does a little research on mattyc’s previous posts and can nail him for tax evasion. Let’s see….. home repair business, moved out of city limits after rant about garbage, regular trips to Alberta. Should not be hard to track down;P

As you can see not the sharpest tool in the shed for someone that is breaking the law to leave a trail of breadcrumbs.

What’s the big deal about going to Alberta for some tax savings? The federal government even raised the limits so people living close to the USA border could spend even more there and avoid Canadian taxes. Heck, I’d go as far as to say they are encouraging it. :-)

Ahhhh MattyC, made my day watching him dig a deep hole.

As I have said before, he is not an activist, he is a radical.

As others have pointed out he is a hypocrite to the upmost and now lets us all know he is a criminal.

Hmmm, he seems like a good candidate to run for politics.

No, Potholes, what it means when a company loses money is their Assets declined in ratio to their Liabilities due to their Sales being less than their Expenses. At the end of their fiscal reporting period the net worth of their shareholder’s equity has declined, while what the company owes, generally to the banks, has increased. No company can continue to lose money indefinitely. Obviously whoever is financing Conifex must have expectations of it being profitable at some point in the future.

Wow. I am almost stuck for words.

A company or corporation is in business to provide a product or service that someone wants and is willing to pay for. This company needs employees to provide that product or service. This means jobs for all those people who don’t own companies.

Government needs these companies to provide multiple sources of income for them. The employees pay income taxes, they pay sales taxes, they pay property taxes, they contribute to one of the biggest companies in our country. That is called government. Don’t you wonder where government gets their money from?

Government cannot create money out of nothing. They need businesses and corporations that provide jobs to make the whole thing work. Otherwise, we are all screwed. We cannot all work for government. We cannot all be recepients of government handouts and expect it to last very long.

Mattyc: How many ‘home renos’ are going to be happening if nobody has jobs? Looks to me like if you get rid of all the ‘big, bad’ corporations you’d be out of work too.

I know my house would be the last thing I’d be spending money on if I lost my job….

I wonder if “home reno’s” is code for break and enter?

If you are not contributing to the system, they you must be ????????????

Gee, mattyc sure got quiet. But it was Friday night, the busiest night for “home reno’s”.

Revenue Canada has his IP address now so have fun with that mattyc. You can bet mattyc’s home reno business is the kind Mike Holmes cringes about. He probably loves the attention though!
