Prince George, B.C. – Target Canada, which now owns the Zellers store at the Pine Centre mall in Prince George, has been issued a permit for the renovations to that store.
The permit values the renovations at $4,676,000.
The Zellers store in the Pine Centre Mall in Prince George is one of 19 Zellers stores in B.C. that will open under the Target banner. It is expected to open in March or April of 2013.
Target has plans to convert 26 Zellers locations in B.C. to Target outlets.
The balance of the B.C. stores will open under the new ownership in 2014.

It will be interesting to see how many local contractors get to work on the project, or if it will be imported from who knows where.
What is going to happen to the Smithers Zellars store?
Reno permit??? … are we getting news from Reno, Nevada now?…..
i will try not to roll my eyes at gus
“Target takes out building permit for renovations”. Is that better gus?
Target is a popular chain in the US. Hope the quality and brand names are maintained for our stores.
It going to take them 2 million alone to try and get that rubber boot smell out of the store.
$4.7 million in renovations, that’s a lot of widgets they’ll have to sell to recoup that expense!! It will be interesting to see if the prices in this store will match those in their USA stores?
I think we are lucky to be getting the Target Store and I am sorry to see the Zellars Store close we could have ended up with no
Store. Hopeful that local people will get some Jobs out of it.
Target will be hiring up to 400 people about half of which will be part timers which is about 70 more than zellers had hired. Also Target wanted to expand the store and city council in their infinite wisdom shut that down
The will be hiring from Reno I think … under NAFTA, claiming Canadians do not have Tarjay stores …. thus cannot possibly have the experience they are looking for … ;-)
Wew, gus, I thought you were going to say that all of the workers were coming from China!
Target, like Walmart, Zellers, and some others are nothing but junk stores.
Tarjay has the BEST junk. Guaranteed to be collectibles of the future.
Workers from China are too expensive compared to aliens from Reno.
“Also Target wanted to expand the store and city council in their infinite wisdom shut that down”
City Council? I must have missed that meeting agenda.
I know Pine Centre is looking to expand further. I also understand they were very upset when they were left out of the plan for the golf course property.
Wonder where that is at. Does anyone know what their plans are now?
Yet another intelligent and constructive observation from Palopu. Keep ’em coming! You are very entertaining to say the least.
>>>I know Pine Centre is looking to expand further. I also understand they were very upset when they were left out of the plan for the golf course property.
Officials with Target came to city hall last year with their plans for expansion of the store and were denied the appropriate permits so instead of expansion it is just now a renovation.
As to Pine Centre mall it’s original plan was to have 205 stores with a movie theatre and something akin to an amusement park. The amusement park idea was removed from the plan in the early ’90’s but the expansion of the mall is still in the plans but as to when or if that will take place and how many stores to expand to is up in the air.
Sonja Hunt who is the manager of the mall has done wonders since she took over but she is stuck in between the property owners in Toronto, City hall and residential and other interests as to what direction the mall should go.
“It going to take them 2 million alone to try and get that rubber boot smell out of the store.”
Thanks for the chuckle. :)
