Prince George, B.C.- City Council has approved a development variance for the Canada Games House on 5th and Quebec Streets.

The Games applied to the City to allow the placement of 6 vertical banners on the Quebec Street side of the building.

The banners display the Games branding message, of “Choose Your Path”, “Leave Your Tracks” and “Journey With Us” in both official languages.

The variance allows the banners to be up beyond the current limit of 30 days per calendar year, to 365 days per calendar year until December 31, of 2015. It also allows for an increase in the number of  banners allowed from one to 6.

Late last month, the 2015 Games Society unveiled the mural on the building. The access to the second floor offices is from the south east corner of the building and will see an elevator installed to ensure accessibility  for all.

What, the city forgot their own rules. its a good thing they make the rules.

“The variance allows the banners to be up beyond the current limit of 30 days per calendar year”

What a stupid, restrictive, officious bylaw!!!!

So banners on street lights can be up for longer periods, obviously.

Treat banners the same way as any signs. Who cares whether it is a billboard, electronic board, awning, outdoor restaurant umbrellas (oops, did I give someone at City Hall another idea of what to control?), stained or etched glass, mural and whatever else the artistic mind can come up with.

I think they need to move those mailboxes somewhere else…..

Whiners ! You can’t see anything good from this action? Why don’t you move and take your negativity with you?

Well said, BCRacer.
I value your opinion, Boon, even if it differs from mine. Have a nice day. :)

It looks great and will give the downtown a little character we can all enjoy. Does anyone know which councillor made the motion?

I’m pumped! The wall looks great and these games are going to be epic :)

We do not need both official languages in PG. Most of the tree planters have headed back to Quebec.

Let’s let the market dictate the message. That is what they seem to do in Quebec. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

I like the signage and message for sure. But, let’s not limit all this marketing just to the Canada Games initiative.

I apologize to all the Franco phones in PG. This is a tender area for me when I go to Quebec. (being English and treated the way we are.)
