Seniors’ Games Get Funding Boost
Burnaby, B.C.- The Provincial Government is pumping $265,950 of new Community Gaming Grant funding into the B.C. Seniors Games.
The announcement was made last evening as the 25th Anniversary edition of the games got underway in Burnaby. The money will be shared by ten B.C. Seniors Games zones.
The funding, is in addition to the $175,000 the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development already provides in direct support for the Games. Zone funding pays for uniforms, registration fees, event qualifiers, and administrative
costs.
Close to 3,700 participants will take part in the BC Seniors Games which celebrate active and healthy seniors in the province. Participants range in age from 55 to over 90 and will compete in 26 events over the course of the Games.
One of the key goals of the Games is to demonstrate the abilities of seniors and to create an awareness of their contribution to the Canadian lifestyle.
