Mackenzie, B.C.- Residents of Mackenzie have a little over a month to let Northern Health know what they think is needed to make their community healthier.
Health status data demonstrates that complex chronic diseases and unintentional injuries are suffered at higher rates in the north than other parts of B.C.
Northern Health is partnering with the District of Mackenzie in collecting input through a survey on ideas that:
- Will provide residents with a more active lifestyle;
- May be in other communities which would be an asset for Mackenzie;
- Get the message out about all the amenities Mackenzie has at its doorstep;
- Makes the current amenities more accessible to residents; and
- Increase the amount of education information accessible to residents about active, healthy eating.
“As an active living community we strive to promote activities in recreation and leisure through lifestyle and partnership efforts with Northern Health and others,” said Stephanie Killam, mayor of Mackenzie. “As our community continues to grow, so does our need for a healthy lifestyle as it continues to play a very important role in our overall health and well-being.” Mayor Killam urges residents to take advantage of the opportunity the survey provides in having a say in what happens in the community.
“This questionnaire will help engage residents of Mackenzie to actively think about living a healthy lifestyle, and give Northern Health and the District of Mackenzie guidance on how to assist them in their goals” says Barb Crook, Northern Health health service administrator for Mackenzie
Residents of Mackenzie have until September 30, 2012 to submit their responses. Surveys can be picked up at the Mackenzie Recreation Centre. Responses to the five question survey can be emailed to mackenziemoves@mackenziegetshealthy.comor dropped off at the Mackenzie Recreation Centre.
