Parole for Shearing? Never

Monday, August 27, 2012 @ 3:45 AM
There is no single event that deals with the murders of individuals that sticks out more in my mind than the killing of the Bentleys and the Johnsons in 1982.
To refresh your memory, the Bentleys and the Johnsons’ were camping in Wells Grey Park in 1982 when David Shearing , who has now changed his name to David Ennis, killed both the senior Johnsons and Bentleys, but kept the two Bentley girls alive for a couple of weeks and sexually molested them before killing them as well.
I met David Shearing at the Husky Cafe at the south end of Prince George after he was picked up by RCMP Sergeant Mike Eastham in Tumbler Ridge on suspicion of murdering the families.
Mike related Shearing’s confession as he sat across from me at the table in the restaurant. Shearing was not in cuffs and at one point asked Mike if he could go to the bathroom, which Eastham said, would be okay. I asked Mike "aren’t you going to the bathroom to ensure that he returns?"   "No" said Mike, "I would really like him to try and escape."   You can fill in your own blanks here.
Shearing definitely didn’t seem to be remorseful as Mike told the story while Shearing listened in.  Mike  explained how, after shooting the four people, Shearing kept the two girls alive in the back of the station wagon and would return every night to sexually abuse one or the other. How both met their death is so revolting that I don’t wish to repeat it.
Shearing sat through that conversation without missing a beat; it was as if he was saying, ‘it was just another week’ in his life. That look on his face has remained etched in my mind.
So now, fast forward to Shearing’s latest attempt to get parole. Shearing who has changed his name to David Ennis, now 53, should never see the light of day. Ther have been other murderous monsters  in our country, Clifford Olson and Paul Bernardo are both on that list,  and for me, Shearing/Ennis,  is  right there with them.
I do know that Sergeant Eastham went to one of the parole hearings at his own expense, to argue that Shearing should not be set free . At the parole hearing he admitted that he still carries the pain of that family’s suffering.
If ever there were a case to be made for no parole, Shearing (Ennis) is where it should start.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

I’ll be the first to second that. Some people are naive and don’t realize what kind of evil walks around out there.

Its a good reason for one to have a gun when out camping and in the bush. I remember when I was a kid the fear people had of the rest stop killer. I still worry about that and ain’t taking any chances with my family. Its probably what made Walmart parking lots so popular (safety in numbers).

Ben forgot to mention he also got married some years ago quite a system

Read Easthams book, The Seventh Shadow. If it doesnt make you believe in Capital punishment, nothing will. This guy shouldnt be wasting our air.

Bernardo lives in a 4×8 foot cell 23 hours a day, under constant video monitoring with no privacy. His neighbors are murderers and perverts. The range smells of bodily fluids. Death would be too good for him and the like. May they all live a long “life” !

Frightening, just frightening that a “thing” like that would even get considered for parole.

I am surprised that conversation ever took place under those conditions.

Would that happen these days?

Is life imprisonment punishment enough for defective people like Shearing-Bernardo et al? Our society and justice system relies on concientous people like Mr. Eastham to be present at parole hearings and give evidence, just to remind the potentially soft hearted or naive that the monsters should not be set free. Bravo Eastham.
