The bandshell in Fort George Park gets set to rock with the ‘sounds of music’ later today

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Symphony Orchestra’s ‘Pops in the Park’ free outdoor concert later today will mark the debut of new music director, Kevin Zakresky.

The Prince George native is returning to his hometown to take over the helm of the PGSO, after finishing his Doctoral degree in Choral Conducting at Yale this past February.

For his season launch, Zakresky and the orchestra will fill Fort George Park with a kaleidoscope of everyone’s favourite Hollywood scores by movie music greats, including Harry Potter by John Williams and Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings.

City residents are invited to bring their own seat and arrive early to find a spot in front of the bandshell for a concert that promises to be an unpredictable and interactive affair – with sing-a-long segments and improv members from Serious Moonlight Productions interpreting famous moments from movies.

"What could be a better way of spending a Sunday afternoon than listening to such great music with family and friends?" asks Zakresky.  "And with our hot-off-the-press season brochure available at the launch, PG can see the ‘big picture’ of what we have in store for you this year."

"We want to make good and certain that everyone realizes this is our orchestra and that our orchestra is for everyone."

The concert begins at 2pm and members of the Yellowhead Rotary Club’s will be offering a late lunch concession with their authentic Lang Smoker bbq on-site.

Should rain attempt to dampen spirits, Pops in the Park will become ‘Pops in the Pews’, as the concert will move indoors to St. Michael’s All Angels Anglican Church at 5th Avenue and Victoria.

Methinks the term ‘rocks’ has pretty much list all meaning

Maybe the bandshell is on shaky ground? ;-)

Even “swing with the ‘sounds of music'” would not be appropriate unless they were to play some big band era music. :-)

They did give us some big band music. At least I thouight “Moom River” was big band stuff. The young lady sang out her heart doing the piece. But then I dont know much about opera if thats what your looking fora big band gig.
Cheers

Unfortunate that people will make negative comments about a free local event put on by talented musicians without ever attending. Very sad.
