Prince George, B.C.- The Independent Investigations Office is expected to release more information this morning on the fatal police shooting in rural southeast Prince George.
Seven investigators arrived in Prince George last night, less than 12 hours after their office was officially declared open and ready to handle its first case.
Details of the shooting are few, with the Prince George RCMP detachment saying only that they had set up a perimeter with hopes of picking up a suspect in a criminal activity, there was an “interaction”, and at least one shot was fired. The local RCMP say no officers were hurt in the incident.
The identity of the man shot has not yet been released.
The new protocol calls for police to secure the scene until the Independent Investigations Office arrives on scene at which time the entire matter is turned over to the IIO.
Yesterday, as the IIO was officially opened, the Civilian Director of the IIO, Richard Rosenthal, promised investigations will be thorough, timely and transparent.

While I am pleased that no member of the force was hurt because of the action taken I must say that I am pleased that there will be an independent body to investigate this tradjeck incident. BTW my confidence in the force is back.
