Prince George, B.C.- The ICBC Claim Centre and ICBC Salvage in Prince George will be behind picket lines next Tuesday.
Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union, Local 378 (COPE 378) has announced it will be taking strike action on that day at 55 ICBC locations in the province, including those in Prince George.
COPE 378 ICBC President David Black says the workers have been without a contract for more than two years ““Their wages are falling behind while ICBC executives and business partners got massive salary increases and $1.2 billion of ICBC profits went into government revenues.”
Black adds that the union had hoped it’s joining with BCGEU and PEA members for a one day action earlier this month, would have encouraged ICBC to move forward to reach a new collective agreement but , according to Black “ICBC’s attitude hasn’t changed.”
ICBC’s last offer was a two percent wage increase over a four year contract.
Essential Service levels will be maintained at all striking locations.

Time to get rid of ICBC. I’d love to see how well these people would function in a position that required them to move at more than a snail’s pace.
Careful what you wish for.
As an owner of auto’s insured both north and south of the US border I find it amazing the private insurer south of the border is 15% cheaper than ICBC for the identical coverage.
ICBC is just another gov’t run organization used as a cash cow to fleece the pockets of the people BC.
ICBC, just another uncompetitive bloated arm of the government with too many middle and upper managers.
Brought to us by the NDP in 1973! No governments have had the balls to get rid of it since!
You dont need to get rid of ICBC. You just need to manage it properly, and stop the Government from siphoning off the money.
In fact if it was done right, we could have very low insurance rates.
You will not see any of the **Ding Dongs** running in the next election making any promises to reform ICBC, BC Transit, BC Hydro, and other Government entities, because they are cash cows for the Government.
Once again we are being fleeced by the very people we elect to look after our interests, and we sit on our hands and cry the blues.
People need to get off their butts, and demand accountability from these politicians.
No one in BC gives a hoot if ICBC goes on strike for one day. Who cares???
Hopefully one of their demands is to stop the hefty bonus program ICBC executives get.
