Friday Free for All, September 14th, 2012
Friday, September 14, 2012 @ 12:00 AM
Wow time flies! Here we are, already at the end of a week, and half way through September!
Today is your day to speak up on the issues that matter to you.
It is time for the Friday Free for All.
You pick the topic, but these three basic rules must be followed:
Keep it clean
Keep it legal
No bullying of other posters.

Today the world is bedeviled by a modern day equivalent of alchemy. Those that study this modern day equivalent are called economists. Like many alchemists before them economists hold positions of great power and influence. Their words are listened to by world leaders with reverence and an almost fawning adoration. The emergence of economists is significantly more dangerous to the world than Wizards working in dingy laboratories trying to turn iron into gold. Economists are in the driver seat, pedal to the metal, driving us over a cliff in a manner that would make Thelma and Louise proud.
The basic alchemy that economists are preaching to the world is that we can keep borrowing more money and printing more money to get our way out of the debt crisis. This theory, like the obsession of turning iron into gold is by any measure of common sense, impossible, stupid, dangerous and absurd. However like any good ‘con job’, the leaders and the general population are a perfect ‘mark’ because they desperately want to believe the myth. The alternative is to accept that developed countries and their baby boomers are going to have to endure years of hard times and a lower standard of living while global debt is paid down, defaulted on and deleveraged.

Interesting the attack that killed the US ambassador this week.
Harper tried to influence the US election this week by strong arming Iran while in Russia… earning a strong endorsement by Netanyahu. A position Romney strongly advocates.
Obama sent his ambassador and the republican Chair of the US House Intelligence Committee (Mike Rogers) to meet with Netanyahu and by all accounts Netanyahu tore a strip into them over setting red lines for war… Mike Rogers saying it was fierce yelling by Netanyahu not like anything he has heard of in his 40-years in politics.
Then on Monday Obama tells Netanyahu he doesn’t have time to meet him anytime prior to the next election.
Netanyahu however has another 9/11 card to play so releases a movie trailer directed by an Israeli mossad agent designed to incite hatred and mob mentality in the mid-east as a diversion for the assassination of an American ambassador that was instrumental in the Arab spring and the free elections sweeping the middle east.
Hillery Clinton gives a great educational speech highlighting how religions and diplomatic missions are about peace and that in America they have a free society that has free speech enshrined in law and that there is nothing government can do to control peoples free opinions.
Fox news then ignores the most important parts of her speech and focuses in on the need to restrict free speech completing the mossad box for American politics. A flip flop from the night before when Romney was speaking.
Now the opposition leader in Israel calls out Netanyahu for trying to influence the American election.
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2012/09/12/261200/netanyahu-trying-to-overthrow-obama/
IMO Netanyahu is playing with fire and Harper is on the wrong side of history trying to play Netanyahu’s game. The next few days Arab countries will have to decide if they are still puppets or if they take their own future into their own hands.
One thing is certain and that is that Israel knows no bounds when it comes to influencing American politics.
Time will tell….
Does anybody else read the 1st 3 words of a Charles post, groan, and go on to the next post?
I did and i looked out side and the sky is not falling
Friday driving lesson.
-confused by the pedals at your feet, tall one is go, wide one is whoa
-unless it is foggy you do not need to drive around with fog lights on.
-keep right except to pass signs are there for a reason and not just decoration.
Trucks with a goat on the front and training wheels on the back seem to be the worst offenders.
To add to today’s driving lesson, the proper sequence before making a turn is this: signal, brake, turn. It’s not: slam on brakes, turn, then possibly signal.
Hey faxman you forgot the part about drifting into the next lane before you make a right turn. If I can make a sharp right turn in a 28′ motor home I am absolutely sure you can do it in your sub 28 foot whatever you drive.
Oddly enough it seems that people driving compact cars are the worst offenders.
eagleone
the link you posted (www.presstv.ir) is clearly anti-semetic and hardly a “news” site. while i agree outside interests are trying to influence the outcome of the american election, sites like this are not credible sources of information. religion is once again being used to incite fear and hatred when problems really stem from economic inequality and corruption.
– merge means merge not stop!
-and most important the signs that say “maximum” speed are there for a reason not decoration too!
I like the speed monitor they put up last year at the bottom of Ospika, coming off Tyner. It really makes one regulate their own speed. Now we just need to have a RCMP around the corner of that to enforce the intent of the speed monitor.
Speed monitor needs a high score board.
speed monitor needs a calibration, the number never seems to equal my speed. It would be nice to know just where the beam of thing is focused so a person could use it as a speedometer check.
-keep right except to pass signs are there for a reason and not just decoration. It dont matter what lane your in when your doing the speed limit keep right is if your doing less than the speed limit.I dont know why the R.C.M.P are not on the hart they could make a kiling. And the way some people drive on the hart once the snow comes they might make a killing.

cheeky: “eagleone

Not surprising for eagleone. When I was reading his post, I was looking for the usual anti-israel reference, and he didn’t disappoint.
Passing on the LEFT!! Not trying to squish between the logging truck in the slow lane and us with the travel trailer passing the logging truck (on the right)!!
You in the little suv! I don’t wanna die today! And the nerve to give us the middle finger and then the fist as you finally get past us, in the very long passing section. What’s with that?
“It dont matter what lane your in when your doing the speed limit keep right is if your doing less than the speed limit”
You are mistaken. You and a whole lot of other people. It’s really a simple concept. Keep right except to pass. There is only one word in there that has more then one syllable; perhaps we need to find an easier word to help all the simpletons out?
Seems to be a lot of ink wasted on giving driving instructions.
Are we to assume that these bad drivers read 250 and will take note of all the advice??
Its much like writing a letter to the editor of a newspaper berating a thieve for stealing something from your front yard.
Are we to assume that **thieve’s** read letters to the editor??? In fact can we believe that thieve’s can read.??
wasted ink?
If you are printing everything out you are doing it all wrong, Palopu:)
re:Alchemist
We live in a time where we turn plain Paper into Gold (Money) keep the Presses rolling at top speed and see what it will get us, Hyper Inflation.
Maybe these are real time events as people are texting while they drive….:)
“Are we to assume that these bad drivers read 250 and will take note of all the advice??”
Apparently some of them do read 250. Of course whether or not they comprehend that which they’ve read is another issue. :)
Is it just me or does anyone else have an issue with the lights on queensway down by the government buildings. If the city wants to promote idle free zones why dont they put these lights on sensors. People are always waiting at these lights when there is no one even near the side streets waiting for the lights. Anyways that is my pet peeve for the day. TGIF
This morning I was sitting at the red light at the intersection of O’Grady and Domano. Travelling into the intersection coming from Home Depot was a guy on a motorcycle being extremely tailgated buy a #$%$#%@#$^% driving a grey/silver Honda Ridgeline. Once the bike was 1/3 of the way through the interection with his left turn signal on, the *^$#$%$#%^$# driving the grey/silver Honda Ridgeline pulled out and passed the bike on the right, right in the intersection! The *(&%^%#%$@# driving the grey/silver Honda Ridgeline went around the bike, turned left in front of the bike completely cutting him off and almost sideswiped him. Then the (*&%^&%$# driving the grey/silver Honda Ridgeline took off out onto Hwy 16 east like there was no tomorrow.
For a second I thought I was dreaming but then realized this was just another day of driving on the planet earth.
“keep right is if your doing less than the speed limit”
you, sir, fail
ps – there are also signs on the hart that say “slower traffic keep right”. Slower is slower. If someone is on your rear bumper then realize that you are slower and move right, dont get all holier than thou about the speed limit…
Some are in the left Lane for turning left, maybe at bit to early, better then turning from the right Lane at the last Moment left.
Ah does Speed Demons of Prince George ,in a hurry to go where ?
“Some are in the left Lane for turning left, maybe at bit to early, better then turning from the right Lane at the last Moment left.”
I’m sure they’re all turning left at some point but there’s really no reason to get into the left lane up by Austin Road if you’re not turning left until 5th.
And why does it bother you so much to know that someone wants to get into town a little faster then you do? Move over to the right and let us pass; we’re not affecting you in any way, shape or form. On the other hand, people that deliberately block the left lane are needlessly affecting other people. There’s no need for it. There will always be people better than you or I; some of them just happen to be better and more comfortable at driving faster on the Hart then you are. Don’t let it bug you.
I have never understood why, when people express an opinion involving the problems between Israel and other Middle Eastern states, that criticising Israel invariably results in accusations of being anti-semitic, i.e. that being anti-Israeli and being anti-semitic are one and the same. I find it puzzling because the other states involved, the Arab states, are also semitic. Logically, anyone expressing a negative opinion about Syria should also be labelled anti-semitic using the same criteria that is used to declare anti-Israeli comments as anti-semitic.
In fact, it is quite possible to reject anti-semitism, and all other bigoted, racist and religious comments, while legitimately criticising the political actions of Israel and any other state, in that area or elsewhere.
I read the article pointed to by the url given by Eagleone about the Israeli opposition leader’s criticism of Netenyahu. I presume he is a semitic, jewish, Israeli and not at all anti-jewish, anti-Israeli, nor anti-semitic. There is nothing in tghe article referenced to indicate otherwise, nor to show the site is any of those three things, although I did not look at any other material from the site to find out. What was in the article appeared to just be news reporting about internal Israeli politics.
Charging someone with being anti-semitic just because they have an opinion that criticises Israel and may show sympathy for Arab viewpoints in the political arena is, in my opinion, a rejection of fundamental democratic principles regarding free speech. Personally, I reject such an approach thoroughly. Charges of anti-semitism are too easily and freely made, but should be reserved for those people who truly are bigots. I someone must be labelled for criticising Israel, then label them as anti-Israeli or pro-Arab. That is far more accurate.
You want people to obey the Keep Right signs so you can speed on by? Forget it, I will gladly drive in the left lane to keep you from speeding.
Obey all signs faxman not just the ones you want to.
@He Spoke
“I like the speed monitor they put up last year at the bottom of Ospika, coming off Tyner. It really makes one regulate their own speed. Now we just need to have a RCMP around the corner of that to enforce the intent of the speed monitor.”
Maybe they should put a monitor in every car!! Oh wait a sec…….
Faxman, give it a rest. Week after week the same crap.
“Forget it, I will gladly drive in the left lane to keep you from speeding.”
And this is safer, in your opinion?
“You want people to obey the Keep Right signs so you can speed on by? Forget it, I will gladly drive in the left lane to keep you from speeding.”
You didn’t answer the question. Why do you want to piss other people off by blocking the left lane? Are you mad at the world for something? Did someone steal your puppy when you were a kid and make their getaway in the left lane?
Seriously, ride slowly in the right lane and let us pass on the left. That way everyone is happy.
“Faxman, give it a rest. Week after week the same crap.”
Don’t read it then old man. There’s another simple concept.
It you don’t like the Hart maybe consider foothills. No keep right signs there. Why would you get pissed of if the person in the letf lane is doing the speed limit. Road rage maybe.
“It you don’t like the Hart maybe consider foothills. No keep right signs there. Why would you get pissed of if the person in the letf lane is doing the speed limit. Road rage maybe.”
Foothills adds too much time and distance to my commute.
I get pissed off at the people who block the left hand lane because they are slowing me down. It’s quite simple isn’t it? Let me by so that I can pull over to the right to let the guy behind me pass. Road rage is only going to happen because someone (you for example) thinks it’s their god given right to piss everyone else off. One of these days you’ll piss the wrong yahoo off and I sure as hell won’t feel sorry for you.
“There will always be people better than you or I; some of them just happen to be better and more comfortable at driving faster on the Hart then you are. Don’t let it bug you.”
Faster than the posted maximum speed is breaking the law faxman. What you are indicating is that you can handle the speed and will drive faster inspite of the law. And you call us simpletons?
I can’t help it if you choose to get pissed off for not getting your way. So I will drive in the left lane anytime I want to pass someone who is driving slower than the posted speed limit. If you are trying to get by me when I’m doing that, too freaking bad. I will plug along at the posted safe speed limit until I get by. If you choose to speed on by when I move over then see you at the next lights.
Yes interceptor keeping folks like faxman from speeding is safer for everyone. Oh don’t assume that I’m jamming the brakes on infront of him he surely wouldn’t see my brake lights and smash right into me. Don’t assume I’m traveling slower than the posted speed limit either.
“Seriously, ride slowly in the right lane and let us pass on the left.”
Seriously, driving the posted speed limit in the left lane isn’t driving slowly.
ammonra if you don’t believe the ant- semitic bent then you have not paid attention or seen his past write ups.
How about the reaction of the religion of peace to some crappy film. Oh and notice the absolute silence of the religion of peace in the western world about the violence in the middle east, interesting. Makes me wonder if there is not some bigger game on.
Faxman you sound pissed off.Oh well, sucks to be you. Noway well said.Am in full agreement with you.
Faxman is correct, obstructing traffic flow is far more dangerous than speeding.
Dragonmaster, could you please clarify the type of vehicle in question?
You know what is hilarious, a loaded Chip truck and a loaded Logging truck going up side by side a long step passing lane, at the end of the passing lane one has to give in to let the other go ahead. That’s driving , a laugh every day.
You can change it to any other big Trucks.
The fact is, is that people are speeding down and up the Hart regardless of ANY signs that say slower traffic stays to the right.
How slow is slow? 80, 90 even a 100 is too slow for most of you. Obviously you speeders have too much money burning a hole and the RCMP could be making a whole lot of revenue to pay for that fancy building downtown.
Winter’s coming, slow the hell down or your family is going to be the one’s whining and crying on here, or worse and you’ll kill someone else. The LIMIT IS 70 regardless of what lane that you are in. I would just love that limitless gas card that all you speeders have, next time you fill up you can fill the car in front of you also so he can go faster. LOL!
“So I will drive in the left lane anytime I want to pass someone who is driving slower than the posted speed limit. If you are trying to get by me when I’m doing that, too freaking bad. I will plug along at the posted safe speed limit until I get by.”
I think you’ve missed the point. I’m all for this type of behavior so long as you pull back to the right lane after you’ve made your pass. It’s the guys that spend their entire trip in the left lane that I find annoying.
“Faxman you sound pissed off.Oh well, sucks to be you. Noway well said.Am in full agreement with you.”
Part of me is hoping that someday you piss off some unstable yahoo and he makes you pay for being a dick. Does that make me a bad person?
Anyhow, the sun’s shining and the morning commuting is over for another week. Enjoy the sun people!
Driving habits ?
I think we should go on strike and quit driving for a week or so.
Came yesterday back to BC, Gas in Grande Prairie at Costco $ 1.13, Gas at Windy Point $ 1.295, Gas in Prince George $ 1.389 – wow I hardly could believe it after being away for a week.
Are we in BC all Millionaires?
And than we want to sell oil to China, how much will they pay per liter?
Keep the gas in Canada, refine it here and then we can sell it for a decent price and maybe we Canadians could pay less than what we have to pay now.
Our resources – and we have to pay top prices – for no reason – just for greed.
Terrible
Pickups with the goat on the front—AKA—moving chacane:)
Posted this on another thread…interesting read.
http://business.financialpost.com/2012/09/13/gas-prices-expected-to-drop-tonight/
lonesome sparrow – thanks for the link
So it is just greed and nothing else = terrible.
The rapid rise without much explanation had more to do with profit-making by Canadaâs major oil companies, who constitute a veritable monopoly.
“Part of me is hoping that someday you piss off some unstable yahoo and he makes you pay for being a dick. Does that make me a bad person?”
Yes, that does make me a bad person. Sorry about that, it was uncalled for. I’ll go out for a walk now.
I have figured out how the city can save a ton of money that they are spending to replace the arsenic laced playgrounds….don’t buy them.
During the installation a couple of big piles of sand were left overnight and it was just like a magnet to all the kids in the neighborhood. The smaller kids brought tonka toys and pails to play and the bigger ones built little jumps.
Novelty of new playground will wear off in a matter of weeks where something as a pile of sand keeps the interest of kids of all ages. It harkens back to a time when imagination was a integral part of childhood play.
Some people it seems, think that a goat and a sheep are the same animal!
suzir2000
The oil companies say there is no collusion is setting prices:nudge, nudge, wink wink. If you go back and read the posts in yesterdays story, I laid out a little plan on how to do something about it using social media.
An analogy would be how the lions(us) on the plains of Africa could not bring down a cape buffalo(big oil) as long as there are in a herd and move together. Separate one from the herd and the lions stand a fighting chance. With enough participation social media could cause this and maybe even bring back something we have not seen for a long time….competition.
All this whining by PG drives. Most of you would do well with a horse and buggy.
Cheers
sjm and Dragonmaster, did either of you possibly get the license numbers of the offending vehicles? It does wonders if you can and then make a call to our friendly RCMP members who will look into it. I have done this in the past and have gotten good results from it.
Also, if you or someone else in the car can take a picture of a vehicle following you too closely, just the fact that you have captured the event is enough to scare most people off. Or it can be used for evidence for a charge.
I know one thing, if you look behind the seat of those trucks you will almost always fine a pair of rubber boots and some Velcro gloves…just saying.
lol.. velcro gloves.
After reading yesterdays post – gas prices –
I am for strike.
Stay at home, don’t drive, don’t go to work, don’t go shopping – enjoy the day or however long it will take, to change things.
sheeple drive goat faced trucks

On another note:::::::
Seems the numbers came out earlier this week in regards to infrastructure dept in Canada, which is in the Billions.
It seems that Prince George’s infrastructure deficit is approx $171 Million. I suggest to you that it is much higher, as the people doing the analysis are using averages, based on population etc;, rather than the **real** **actual** deficit.
As an example Prince George puts $3.5 Million into roads each year, however in order to maintain the status quo, we would need to put in $12 Million per year. So every year we fall further behind. Once you factor in water, and sewer, we have a real big problem.
What I dont understand is, how come this information on our infrastructure debt has not been reported by any of the media in Prince George, other than one on line news blog.???
Isnt the fact that we are going to hell in a hand basket news?????

A ram is a sheep.
A Dodge Ram is a hemi-powered Fiat.
hey there eagleone, did you know that the weblisting you posted is Iranian? i would take what that site says(prints) with a grain of salt.
on another topic, i read there was a chip truck pulled over for speeding in a school zone. 100kph in a 30 zone and he only gets a 350 dollar fine? WTF? i thought there were parameters set about excessive speed. if i do 70kph over the limit on my bike do you think a tow truck would be called? cop and trucker must be friends
mtnloverxtreme
nobody said it was a chip truck, the reports only said it was a “truck”.
The reason he only got a $350.00 fine was because it was “alleged” he was doing 100 kmph, the cops had the radar turned off and were tearing down their equipment when said truck passed them. He got fined for a seatbelt and the minimum fine for speeding because they could not prove his speed.
If you would like confirmation, just look down a few stories on this site and you can read it for yourself.
Our B.C. Government is over a Billion Dollars in Dept. I think it’s a lot of miss management of our Money and not thinking about making money. The Government owns Gateway Complex on 20th, and has the whole top floor sitting empty. I think they should turn the suites into independent living for seniors all they would have to do is add a full sized fridge and stove and charge the same rent for all seniors. How hard would that be to do ?? Double Book keeping ,like we have a needle exchange downtown so why are we delivering needles and condoms and other things in a Big Van with two workers in it in residential neighborhoods.? As for the HIV campaign. Why the big pictures of the Health Care Workers in the News paper that must be costing a fortune and whats the purpose?
Ah well, you KNOW the Liberals are going to get back in, just too many bad memories of the NDP still lingering, and the Conservatives don’t seem to be doing anything. Better the Liberals we know than the dangers of another 4 years with the NDP.

Slim2229 said, “Ah well, you KNOW the Liberals are going to get back in, just too many bad memories of the NDP still lingering, “
They shouldn’t be called “bad memories” but poor misconceptions.
The NDP had some problems in the 1990’s with the Asian meltdown esp. in Japan but they overcame them. When they left power, they BC with a substantial surplus. The BC Liberals quickly changed that to a deficit because they had no clue about how to run a province. Glen Clark was hired by Jimmy Paterson for his expertise in running the province while Gordon Campbell was given a political appointment to be ambassador to Great Britain as a reward for introducing the HST.
Stop it astro! My insides are hurting from laughing so hard!
Lets all take a lesson in merging, or send them to drivers training in Vancouver or Toronto….{You tube} ..bad merges.. hillarious,, I think PG is in there somewhere.
Yes Press TV is owned by the Iranian government. It was a reprint of essentially the same article posted in Haâaretz an Israeli daily.
I linked to the Press TV article because some people would discount the story regardless of its material and essentially it shows a closed mind IMO. The facts were not changed, but the source often influences peoples preconceived views. I like to read Press TV sometimes to get the other side of the story and choose for myself what I should believe. Almost all media now days is corporate owned with an editorial agenda and they all tell you what they want you to hear… most media in the west is owned by zionists and they want war on Iran and throughout the middle east for a greater Israel… therefor it is essential to read material from outside sources to get some balance or be war puppets for a foreign agenda.
Case in point is the source of the offending video. Some media reports it as that of an Israeli living in California… other say it was financed by Israeli’s but directed by a Coptic Egyptian… others say it was a lone operation made by a Coptic Egyptian (that has no money of his own to finance the video)… others sources say the alias of the principles involved are all fake names with fake passports (points to mossad)… in the Muslim world it is reported as an American movie… in Israel its reported as a Coptic made movie… and through it all is a thread of truth.
What we know for certain is the video became a sensation after Obama turned down Netanyahu for a meeting on red lines for war with Iran, it was used as a planed diversion to assassinate the enabler of the Arab spring (which only Israel strongly opposes), it was designed to inflame the Muslim world and push America into a wider war (which Israel is pushing hard for), and it was intended to cause havoc on the anniversary of 9/11 a special date for those that are proud of that day in history.
Charles, you make some great points. All very much true so far as I can tell.
From my perspective the next US election will be the most important in our life times. It is made out to be an election in which war with Iran depends, or tax cuts for the rich, or defending the pentagon budget, or defending entitlements, or getting people back to work and fixing the economy… depending on who you talk to these are all priorities. But in reality this upcoming American election is about one thing.
This upcoming American election is really about how the American bankruptcy will be managed. The unsaid truth of the matter. It will effect people far and wide including Canada.
Both political parties think sort term entitlements… the democrats would likely raise taxes for social entitlements, whereas the republicans would cut taxes for financial entitlements, and both would race off the fiscal cliff on a crazy train of partisanship. The US Fed is already giving money to the bankers through QE3 to ensure they stay whole for as long as it takes them to liquidate paper for real wealth. The ones left holding the bag will be the middle class.
IMO the solution would be a revaluation of debt giving a 70% haircut to those holding debt, similar to the Greek situation… it would hurt the 1% and those with savings to be sure, but would allow main street to continue on with minimal disruption enabling future economic growth. The US Fed is indicating it will do otherwise and instead investors will still loose 70% but rather the US Fed way will be through printing money and therefor taxing savings in that manor via monetary inflation that devalues the dollar but protects the 1% money class.
Time Will Tell
I’d just like to say I really like those street trees down at 5th and George. Sure would be nice if we had trees like that throughout the downtown area. I can’t figure out why they planted the kind of tree they did elsewhere like along third.
I also notice there is some really nice trees at the old tourism site at 97&16. I sure hope what ever it is John Major has planned for that corner that he is able to work around the existing trees so we wouldn’t have to wait another 30-years for the new ones to mature….
I wonder if the 8 or 9 city council members
have made it back from the union meeting in Vacouver. All expenses paid. Man we have a bunch of important people here in PG.I really smell a fish with council.
Sorry guys, Im really concerned. When they wanted to get voted in, they were going to lower taxes, but nope, they go up every year. Not good. We could have a reality show here im sure.
September 24 to 26th ….. they are still here and it feels like they have been gone for many weeks already … LOL
