Forbes to Lead Cariboo Cougars
Prince George, B.C. — The Cariboo Cougars have selected their team captain for the coming season. 17-year old forward Ryan Forbes will wear the "C" for the coming season which starts this Saturday, September 22nd.
This marks Forbes’ second season with the Cats having racked up 36 points in 39 games with 79 PIM’s last year. One of just six returning players from last season, Forbes is leading a younger group with six third year midget players on the roster compared to eight in 2011-2012.
Forbes is joined by three assistant captains in forwards Tyler Povelofskie and Logan Styler, and defenceman Stephen Penner.
As a first year midget player last season with the Cougars, Povelofskie, who hails from Williams Lake, scored eight goals and added 12 assists with 36 PIM’s in 34 games.
Styler is also entering his second season with the Cats as a 16-year old. Last season he scored seven goals with nine assists and just 12 PIM’s in 35 games.
Penner played about a third of the season last year with the Cougars as an Affiliate Player. The 6’5" defenceman brings plenty of experience having won the provincial Midget AAA Championship.
The Cougars open up the 2012-2013 regular season this Saturday, September 22nd at home against the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. Puckdrop is set for 4:15pm at CN Centre with free admission.

Forbes is a GREAT high quality person, and will be a truly good role model and representative to our whole region. The assistant captains are also fine kids indeed, in fact, the Cariboo Cougars are one high class organization from top to bottom. Coach Sprague has a lot to be proud of, including himself. I know the parents, billets and fans all appreciate the high class operations as well.
