Prince George, B.C. –  Two Prince George men  are in custody following a robbery at a jewellery store in the Pine Centre Mall in Prince George.
RCMP say  they  rsponded to a call of a possible robbery in progress  late this  morning.

Shortly before 11:00 AM, two masked persons were seen entering the jewellery store, smashing display cases and taking a number of items. Within seconds, one of the suspects was tackled by a member of the general public with a mall security officer assisting shortly after. A few seconds after that, an on-duty plain clothes RCMP officer, who happened to be in the mall on other business, arrested the suspect.

The second suspect was apprehended in the Zellers store, by store security with the assistance of two members of the general public. The suspect was taken into custody by police shortly after.

No one was hurt during this incident and all stolen items are believed to have been recovered.

Initially, police received a number of reports that there were three persons involved in the offence and that gun shots occurred. Through the use of video surveillance, witness accounts and other evidence, investigators are confident there were only two suspects in the mall and that no guns were used. The popping sounds likely came from the smashing of display cases.

Two cans of bear spray and a mallet were seized during the investigation.

Charges will be recommended to Provincial Crown Counsel against the 21 year old and 22 year old Prince George men.

Neither of the suspects is believed to have been involved with the three armed hold ups that  have taken place in Prince George over the past  week.

Kudos to all involved, especially the citizens who jumped in to help. Gives me hope that obviously not everyone in this town is completely apathetic. Bravo people.

While it is said that it’s not the safest thing to do, I wouldn’t hesitate to take down a goof or two, been there, done it.
Thankyou very much citizens of PG for stepping up and nailing these two. You show the determination and resolve that’s not always seen in stepping in and doing the right thing. Wish everyone was like you, the crime rate would drop drastically. It would be nice if our MAYOR and Council would do something for these folks, perhaps an award for performing a selfless act, and putting their lives in danger. You just never know what these idiots still have on them or what diseases they carry.

These crooks dont appear to be to **bright**. Then again is there such a thing as a smart **crook**

wow its a good thing you guys said anything about the security at Pine Centre oh wait you didn’t as they are a part of this too in holding the fellow down after the citezen knocked him over wow but it’s great that there is people around to help assist and put their lives in danger !

Honors to ALL who didn’t stand by and not act; mall security and general public alike. I believe the justice system will fail you, but I am proud of you for your action when it counted. Well done people!!

It looks like more people are getting the idea that its better to get involved to improve this town and do what they can, where they are and with what they have. Thanks a bunch to all of you who pitched in to help. You’re heroes to a lot of people. Stay safe and thanks again!

This is the criminals’ greatest fear, that someone might disrupt their activities or identify them. Lets keep up the pressure!

What a good idea! Robbing a mall jewellery store, in the middle of the day.
These guys will go far! The new generation of all the same old local criminal families, is even dumber than the last.

I was in the mall working when this happened, on the opposite side of the building, but it was the freakiest thing ever – people were rushing around, telling everyone to evacuate because there was a gun on premises, etc. First thought was really that it was a mall shooting. Was so glad to find out it wasn’t as serious as that, though, and that the people were caught. Really, though – robbing a jewelry store at lunchtime with tons of people in the mall? Did they not expect that someone would catch them?
