Air Quality Advisory Issued

Prince George, B.C. – An air Quality Advisory is in effect for Prince George because of high levels of fine particulate.
The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 28 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site, 31 µg/m3 at the Exploration Place, 16 µg/m3 Forman Flats, and 19 µg/m3 at College Heights at 8 am today.
The provincial air quality objective for coarse particles, PM10, is 50 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 58 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 34 µg/m3 at College Heights and 66 µg/m3 at BCR at am today.
Based on the air quality data, the high levels are mainly due to emissions from industry and road dust.
A stagnant upper high pressure over the region resulted in pollutants accumulating in the air shed. Light winds and dry conditions are expected to remain over the region. This high pressure system is expected to gradually weaken and move eastward over the next 48 hours. So air quality conditions may improve faster than forecast.
The advisory means P.G. Transit will offer free rides under the Free Fare for Clean Air program. The free transit starts tomorrow, and will last until midnight of the day the advisory is cancelled

I was driving in from the south yesterday afternoon.
The brown haze was visible in the distance driving downn from the plateau into 100 Mile House. It said: “welcome home to forest fire country” and the land of high gas prices ….. . :-)
Been away from PG for about a year and half without a single air quality issue and I’ve been back for under 24 hours and have an AQ advisory to deal with. It’s good to be home, LOL ;)
