Gibralter Recognized At Reclamation Awards
Prince George, BC – Gibralter Mines Ltd. has been recognized its outstanding achievement in reclamation practises at the annual BC Mine Reclamation Awards banquet.
The mine near Williams Lake received the Metal Mine Reclamation Award for its forward-looking approach to reclamation by using research trials to determine best methods for future reclamaction success.
Eli Christiansen and Moril Daigel were presented with the Placer Mine Reclamation Award for their work at the Douglas Property near Terrace. The men were recognized for consistently demonstrating a responsible approach during operation and reclamation of their placer property.
Three other mine sites received awards at a banquet held in Kamloops last week, including: the historic Mount Washington copper mine on Vancouver Island, for work aimed at reducing copper leaching from the closed site, which operated in the 1960s; the Rosebush Pit sand and gravel operation near Vernon, for efforts to return mined areas to useful agricultural land; and the Lumby Mine, for efforts to clean up the site and close access to underground mine workings.
Mining Association of BC President and CEO, Karina Brino, says, "The companies are to be commended for employing innovative, effective reclamaction practises aimed at restoring mine and exploration sites in BC, ensuring the land is left in environmentally sound condition."
Brino says the companies responsible exemplify the high standards the industry adheres to in BC and "upon which BC’s reputation sets the bar for other mining jurisdictions around the world."
