5 Day Countdown on Till Run for the Cure

Tuesday, September 25, 2012 @ 3:50 AM
Prince George, B.C.- Just five days left before pink boas, pink shoe laces,  pink hair,  become part of the  apparel of  those walking, strolling,  and running in the annual  Run for the Cure in Prince George.

Set to start from the Civic Centre at 10:00 this Sunday , following the opening ceremonies, the Run for the Cure is the single largest fundraiser in Canada to raise dollars for Breast Cancer research.

“We are doing something a little different  this year “ says run organizer Renee McCloskey. “Instead of honouring the Breast Cancer survivors at  the start of the race, we will be piping in the survivors in a survivors parade  at  the end of the awards presentation after the run. This will be an opportunity for the community to say thanks to all of them for their inspiration.”

McCloskey says the number of people registered to run this year, is down a little from last year’s level of participation when more than 500 took part, but the donations are on track to meet last year’s level of fundraising. “So we may have fewer participants, but they are doing a phenomenal job of raising dollars for the cause.”

The call for volunteers is working, as the number of people stepping forward to help out with the run is close to matching the need, and McCloskey says there is still time to register to take part in the run as registration will be open until 5:00 Friday. Anyone wishing to register can do so by going to  www.CBCF.org and following the links to the Run for the Cure registration.
