Oregon Link to Highway of Tears?

Prince George, B.C. – The investigation into the deaths and disappearances of 18 women along Highways 16, 97 and 5, will enter a new phase today.

The CBC is reporting investigators will point the finger at Bobby Jack Fowler of Oregon for a link to at least one death. Investigators are expected to show DNA evidence linked Fowler, ( in photo at right) who has since died in prison, to the death of 16 year old Colleen McMillen. She died in 1974, and was last seen hitch hiking near Lac La Hache.
Fowler is also suspected of killing two Oregon teenaged girls in 1995. Two girls from Newport, 15 year old Jennifer Esson and 16 year old Kara Leas vansished from a roadside, their bodies later found in a clear cut area, covered with brush.
Fowler is said to have worked as a roofer over the years.
Global BC is also reporting an Oregon connection. Although not releasing any name, the Global report suggests the suspect may have died in prison in 2006.
At the news conference this morning, investigators will be calling on people throughout B.C., across Canada, and in the United States, for assistance.
While there will be a full news conference shortly after 11:00 this morning from the BC RCMP Headquarters in Surrey, some members of the investigative team will also be coming to Prince George for a special media session Wednesday afternoon.
The families of the 18 murdered and missing women have been contacted and advised of the details of the news conference.

“Late on Monday night, the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office, in Oregon, released new information in the ongoing investigation of cold case homicides from the 1990s.
“Fowler, who died in prison at age 66 from lung cancer, is named in a 1995 double homicide in Oregon, and is a person of interest in a 1992 double homicide in the same area.”

So the USA could not wait for the Canuck news release. Great cooperation, eh?? :-)
For the sake of the families (and the rest of us who wonder who is out there doing this), please dear god let there be some tangible connection.
In many ways, it is a shame that he is dead already.
There are so many travlers of our hiways that are taking advantage of these young women, espesially the disadvantaged it is heart breaking. These women have mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and loved ones that do care for them. If you do pick them up along our hiways please show them respect as they are human beings.
There is no reson why we shouldnt look south for some of those responsible for dearhs along #16. It is a link for Americans traveling by ferry from Alaska to mainland USA.
In the years that I travelled #16 I did pick up a number of Americans hitch hiking from Alaska to the Mainland USa.
cheers
He looks just like an RCMP sketch from 1974.
The picture id dated 1995. Have they said when -what year he was imprisioned?
Good Point. When was he put in jail? How long was he there before he supposedly died?
Why is this fact not not confirmed yet?
