One More Election Run For Shirley Bond
Saturday, September 29, 2012 @ 5:24 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Prince George-Valemount Liberal MLA Shirley Bond says she’s excited about the governments chances of being re-elected in next May’s provincial election.
Bond says “You have to look at the results that we’ve seen over the last few weeks as a result of our emphasis on job creation. You know British Columbia is leading the country as job creators at a time when there is so much economic uncertainty. I think this comes down to realizing that British Columbians need strong leadership, consistency and fiscal management discipline and it’s pretty exciting to see British Columbia emerge as a job creation leader. That’s a lot of motivation for Pat Bell and I as we thought about our future.”
Bond says she’s not dismayed by the fact that 16 Liberal MLAs have announced they won’t run in the election. “All of them have said that this is not related to the leadership (of Premier Christy Clark) or the plan that we have in place. It’s about that personal decision that you have to make at some point in your political career. This job is extremely taxing. But I can tell you this that renewal is critical and we’re already seeing new and dynamic candidates step up across the province.”
Bond has been an MLA for 12 years. 250 News asked her how many election battles she has left in her. “It is a battle, it is a very difficult job and I have a reputation of having an unbelievable hard work ethic. I work extremely long hours to not only do my work as a minister, but most important to me is caring and responding to the needs of my constituents. I’m in that stage of my life where I’m committed to this next run. I’m gonna work hard and do my very best to be successful. But it takes a toll and it does make you stop and think about the future but certainly one more run and at that point who know what’ll happen. But one more for sure.”
Some pundits believe the Liberals will be thrashed in the election. We asked Bond if she’s prepared to sit on the Opposition benches. “We’re starting to see the momentum shift but we’re going to have to work hard. I fully intend to be a member of the government after the next election. There were some things that we did that British Columbians were not happy about. We recognize that and certainly we’re working hard to earn that trust back.”

Dream on Shirley
She’ll only be a mmber of the next government if she crosses the floor and becomes a member of the NDP. I’m not a fan of the NDP but it certainly looks like we are headed down that road again despite what happened when they were in power before.
In my opinion, neither party is good for BC right now….
Have you three considered the alternatives??? The NDP;s candidate is unqualified, uninformed, inexperienced. Perhaps the Greens will offer you a suitable candidate??? Hahahahahahahaha
Wow! What ever she is on I want some! That way I can get as excited as she is over all the lies, the mountains of debt, the pay offs to Fiberal friends, the longest standing record for child poverty in Canada. etc. etc. No political party in BC or Canada can match this bunch of Bozos. Sorry Mercenary; but the NDP cannot even come close to the record levels of imbecility that this bunch has attained!!!
She has destroyed every ministry she has touched, back your bags lady
Working hard to earn our trust back? How, by mouthing platitudes and ignoring the obvious? These guys are shuffling deck-chairs on the Titanic.
I’m not the biggest fan of Ms. Bond, but compared to the alternatives, she’s the only rational choice.
Both Bond and Bell have represented this area better than anybody before them. Could they have done better? With hindsight and under a different leader, I am sure they could have…nobody is perfect.
Please dont

Of course she is. No other party hands out tax dollars to business like hers does.
Hey Shirley, you being the Libs miracle worker that you are, how can you stand there and claim all is well in fantasyland?

Again as a disabled father of one I can attest to the cruelty shown by this government to the disabled. When I approached her office about how I was supposed to live on and support my then young son on $856/mth, I asked her assistant what she would do if she were in my place. Her response was that “if she was disabled she would not have had a child” as if being disabled reason not to have the privilage of having a family. No one needs this type of monster as their elected representative. I soon leaned that the rest of the B.C.Liberals were all just as insensitive and indeed resentful of every penny that goes into supporting disabled people in this province. YEs, it definitely is well past due for change to save our portion of society from heartless treatment aimed at reducing our population insted of supporting us to be useful members of this society.
Good ridance Shirley, pat Cerberus on the head as you are rejected at the doors!
Seems like the NDP lovers are out spouting the same old rhetoric. Yawn.

Sorry, hiccup on the repeat button! Then again we have been treated so badly, it might just bear repeating again.
I can say this tho’ in the over ten years of being an MLA, Shirley looks to have aged about twenty-five years! I guess the pressures of having to be a yes person must be quite high.
I bet the race will be on for the Womenâs Recovery Centre before the election. The owners are all Liberal supporters as is our Mayor. Now the rush is on once again to push it through council. I am not NDP but there is no alternative. If anything like Baldy Hughes being sold to the BC Liberals so will NSRC . Good bye Shirley Bond. RETIRE
Gofaster: “JohnnyBelt I am far from a NDP lover, but I will say I have little like for the liberals at this moment.”
Believe me, I get that people are mad. Both Clark and Campbell have had their issues, and the Liberals are far from perfect. But that is no reason to take a step backwards and elect the NDP, which is what likely will happen.
As far as hoping for a minority government goes, it’s a pipe dream. For a minority government, you need 3 parties. Some have suggested electing independents, but there are no independent candidates that I’ve seen that are worth electing. So, we’re stuck with two parties.
Do you people not read? The NDP is a crap party as well as the Liberals. I don’t support either…..
That said….I think the NDP will form the next Govt. simply because people are pissed at the Libs. There is NO lesser evil in this next election.
Well all we can hope for is that someone else “nukes” her seat out from under her. Bounce her sorry behind out of here by voting someone else in as our area rep. I am not a liberal fan, nor do I care much for the No Discipline Party the other option is to look at the newbie Green Party…..hmmm gnaw skip that idea. So bounce her out, going with the devil you know (liberals) just get her out of office. So who wants to be a face for the liberals in this area?? Any takers?? But Bond’s gotta go!!!
Think Pat and Shirley have worked hard for the north and would argue that things could have been a hell of a lot worse without them holding the big stick up here on behalf of their government….but, although I like Pat and Shirley, I fear their government. Time for a change and a renewed focus.
Thank goodness we had the 2010 games to see BC through these tough times, with the economic spin offs and all. Hope the 2015 junior version will be just as advantageous to PG….already got a wish list started with the buckets o’ money we are going to make!!
JB makes up for his lack of smarts with his lack of humor!
Liberals are gone, they shouldn’t have stolen from the poor to give MORE to the RICH! If the Liberals wanted to get back in then they should have known that this was coming.
Buckets of money, you mean buckets of more debt and higher taxes. What crap!
Keeping the Liberals in power because the NDP might get in, is not a very smart move.
What happens is, we would be rewarding bad behaviour, and in fact would be giving the Liberals free rein to take us to the cleaners again.
They had 9 years to do the right thing, and all they did was look after themselves, and their buddies. Its time for them to pay the piper.
HST, Carbon Tax, Increase in Hydro, ICBC, Vancouver Olympics, Sea to Sky Highway, BC Place, New Port Mann bridge, just to name a few projects that cost us billions. There is much, much, more.
If there are no viable independents running, then I guess I dont vote. I certainly will not be supporting the Liberals after the BS they pulled off.
BC politics suck. We are represented by three main parties, ie; Liberal, NDP, and Conservative, and they are all nothing more than a group of people who want to sit in the limelight and piss our money into the wind. We need a significant change in this Province, however I dont know where the hell it will come from.
@realist
I personally don’t believe that it would matter who was in “power” that you would be satisfied with the benefits you receive. I cannot condem Shirley Bond for suggesting that you should not have had a child if your circumstances could not support one. Why should you, regardless of your situation, warrant the governmet (us the taxpayers) having to support your wishes and dreams, (such as having a family) if you cannot support it financialy? Regardless of what government is of the day, I as a taxpayer, do not want to support your family….
bowzone_mikey
IMO your rudeness is only supassed by your clouded judgement….I think you should take a deep breath and then re-read last weeks article on Ditzy Dix speach…that was the Union of BC Municipalities not the “Greater Vancouver Business Community”
Hey, VMT, who’s going to support you when you’re old? Who’s going to wipe your arse and feed you your pablum? Frankly, I’d rather see tax dollars going to support those less well-off than for feathering the beds of those who are already rich.
What a selfish p@#*k!
Denaljo: “JB makes up for his lack of smarts with his lack of humor!”
This is extremely rich, coming from someone whose every second post is “Brian for Mayor!”
hey Runner 46 …. Dixs address to the GVBC was 3 weeks ago …. perhaps you should be a little slower with the keyboard …. but you are correct with the UBCM …. that was last week … and he was well received there too ….
Bond is a space cadet … her head is in the clouds …. She ruined SD 57 when she was a trustee and chair … then as minister of Education she ruined BCs education system by closing down many schools and forcing our kids into overcrowded portables , Not bad for someone that doesnt even have her Batchelors degree in anything… but she does have a dipolma in arts …. as the Solicitor general and attorny general… Crime has risen… the fact that she only minimally fines business that kill their employees via pure neglegence speaks volumes to me.
The BC Conservative Party doesnt have a full slate of candidates … so in reality there are only 2 choices … Lieberals … or NDP …. I have reservations of both … but I am not wasting my vote as a non Vote says “all is well” … it certainly is not.
I am not Voting for a government that rides its budget of the price of Commodities …. WOW!!!! … Hey Terasen, BCHYdro, Shaw …. I am not paying you because my budget is over stretched because I didnt win at Bingo last night …. Try that folks … letme know how that turns out. Oh Visa … Ya I cant pay you because the Stock market didnt turn out like projected …. LMFAO … I dare anyone to try that and see where it gets them …. How come our Government can do that?
“Believe me, I get that people are mad. Both Clark and Campbell have had their issues, and the Liberals are far from perfect. But that is no reason to take a step backwards and elect the NDP”
Electing anyone other than the Liberal corporate puppets is anything but a step backwards.
