The Prince George Cougars are 3-0 to start the young season after a 4-3 come-from-behind victory at home Friday against the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Cougars erased a 3-1 deficit with three unanswered goals in a three-minute span to secure the 4-3 victory. Colin Jacobs recorded two points while Devon Fordyce turned aside 30 pucks for his first victory of the young season.
Colin Jacobs opened the game’s scoring on a penalty shot at 15:48 of the first period. For Jacobs it was his fourth of the season and the second goal that he’s scored this season on a penalty shot.
Seattle quickly tied the score when Brandon Troock made a nice drag move into the slot area and beat Devon Fordyce with a wrist shot to tie the game at one. 53 seconds later Justin Hickman converted off a one-timer to make the score 2-1 for Seattle. They would take that lead into the intermission.
Mid-way through the second, Seattle extended their lead on a long center-ice shot from Evan Wardley. Devon Fordyce came out of his net to play the puck, and even though he had returned to his goal crease, the puck took a funky hop and beat Fordyce stick side to make it 3-1.
Back came the Cougars though when Jordan Tkatch stole the puck at the Seattle blueline and raced in on Justin Myles to make it 2-1. 55 seconds later Alex Forsberg converted on a two-on-one with Colin Jacobs to knot the score at three.
Daulton Siwak scored the game’s final goal at 17:25 of the second period on the power play. Jari Erricson made a gorgeous cross-crease pass to Siwak who made no mistake for his third of the season. Dallas Ehrhardt also added an assist.
Seattle outshot Prince George 13-5 in the final period, but Devon Fordyce stood tall and earned his first victory of 2012-2013. The Cougars finished the night going one-for-four on the powerplay, while killing off the one penalty that they took during the game.
These teams will meet again Saturday night at CN Centre, with the Cougars looking to make it four in a row to start 2012-2013.
