Friday, September 28, 2012 @ 9:30 PM
Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Spruce Kings have taken over first place in the Mainland Division of the BC Hockey League.

The Kings opened a 3-game weekend road trip Friday night with a 5-2 victory over the Vipers in Vernon. The clubs were scoreless through 20 minutes, with Prince George taking over the contest in the middle frame, outscoring their opponents 3-1. Vernon opened the scoring at the 3:30 mark as TJ Dumonceaux fired a bullet past Kings’ goalie Kirk Thompson. But Cam Lawson put PG on the board at 7:00. The Kings got two more before the period was out, with Sean Landrey scoring at 14:47 and Bradley Ryan converting on the power play at the 18:55 mark.

The Kings got two more power play goals in the third. Cam Lawson scored his second of the game with Lynden Martell wrapping up the Prince George scoring. Ryan had three assists to go with his one goal. Thompson blocked 28 Vernon shots for the win.

So the Kings take over top spot in the division with a 4-0-1 and 1 record, good for 10 points. Coquitlam, which went into the night in first place, dropped a 2-1 loss to Surrey, leaving those two clubs tied with 8 points.

The Spruce Kings head to Merritt for a Saturday night encounter before wrapping up the weekend Sunday night in Penticton.
