Cats Earn Three Points Out of Four This Weekend.

Saturday, September 29, 2012 @ 10:06 PM

The Prince George Cougars are still without a regulation loss, but the Seattle Thunderbirds snagged the extra point in a 2-1 overtime decision Saturday at CN Centre. Seth Swenson tied the score for Seattle with just 10 seconds left in the third, and then Shea Theodore notched the OT winner at the two minute mark of overtime.

It was a scoreless game after one period with Seattle outshooting Prince George 14-7. The Cougars had a number of quality scoring chances, but they either hit posts or Brandon Glover kept the door shut for Seattle. Devon Fordyce was solid at the other end for the Cougars who turned aside all 14 shots that were fired in his direction.

Prince George largely controlled the second period outshooting Seattle 15-10. Brandon Glover continued to make big saves to keep the game scoreless. Finally with two minutes to go in the second, Alex Forsberg was able to knock home a loose puck in the goal-mouth area to make it a 1-0 game for Prince George. Colin Jacobs and Brock Hirsche assisted on Forsberg’s third of the season. For Jacobs it was his ninth point of the season, which put him into a tie for the WHL lead in scoring.

The third period went back-and-forth with each team getting some quality chances, but once again Brandon Glover and Devon Fordyce kept the doors shut in their respective nets. With less than 20 seconds to go, Seattle pulled their goaltender for an offensive zone faceoff, and Seth Swenson was able to squeeze the puck past Devon Fordyce for the equalizer.

Two minutes into overtime Shea Theodore converted off a two-on-one with Seth Swenson to help Seattle secure their second victory of the 2012-2013 season. An unfortunate result for Cougars netmind Devon Fordyce who was very good for a second consecutive game.

Seattle outshot the Cougars 34-30 and neither team was able to capitalize on the man advantage. For a second straight night the Cougars only took one minor penalty while Seattle was able to kill off all four Cougars power play chances.

With the loss, the Cougars record now sits at 3-0-1-0. The young Cougars have still managed to secure at least a point in each of their first four games to start 2012-2013. Through four games the Cougars have seven points and sit atop the BC Division.

Next up, the Kelowna Rockets come to town for two games next weekend on Friday and Saturday at CN Centre.

Anyone notice that the attendence fell from 4236 on Friday to 1971 on Sunday??

Seems once you take away all the free tickets and hype, no one wants to watch the game.

If 1971 is any indication then we are in for another bad attendence year.

Wonder how the beer sales went???

Were you a corkscrew in a previous life? I don`t believe there is a post of yours that hasn`t had facts and fiction all mixed up to sound something like reality.

Runner46 Never mind the attempt at insult.

Just answer the question. Why the big difference between Friday and Saturdays attendence??? I know for a fact that free tickets were being passed out all over town. The Cougars won Friday, one would think that the fans would return Saturday. Maybe there were no free tickets for Saturdays game???

Wonder how the beer sales went??

the beer is shitty … and for 7 bucks for a 10 oz cup of draft I wont buy any more… nor will I buy a 6 oz glass of wine for 7 bucks when they are pouring 12 dollar/bottle wine ….

The games were good …. Pg is a bandwagon town … if the Cougars continue on the path they started out on … people will come …. People blame ownership for the lack of attendance … truth is .. most of PG have no clue who the owner is … they want a winner …

I recall last time the Cougs went past the first rnd in the Playoffs … the Ospika cash box was sold out …. I recall camping out for playoff tix … and having the arena sell out in 6 minutes!!!!

Continue to win Cougars … and the seats will be full

one thing that I do admire about the Beer sales …. The Kegs are right there … as opposed to other arenas where the Kegs are below … sometimes a mile away via line … Nothing like getting last weeks beer …. I enjoyed the ability to have a beer in the stands … But only given one choice of Brew … and I am not a fan of anything local (what they serve … which I admire BTW)… untill PWB makes an IPA ;) I dont need a drink to have a good time

and yes … Palopu … many childrens tix were given away to various elementary schools Friday night.

“I recall last time the Cougs went past the first rnd in the Playoffs”

My memory is nowhere near that good, LOL :)

There was no where near 4000 people at Friday’s game. Maybe 2500 in the stands.

Personally I like the smaller crowds; gives me some elbow room!
