Fire Prevention Week Starts Now

Prince George, B.C.- Today marks the start of Fire Prevention week in Prince George.
This year, the focus is on making sure families have a fire escape plan that provides for two ways out of their residence.
While having a working smoke detector is crucial, it goes hand in hand with having an escape plan says Chief Fire Protection Officer, Dennis Perrault. “Its important the children know what to do, and where to go if there is fire, but that plan is only effective if the early detection provided by a working smoke alarm is available.”
Prince George Fire and Rescue have been making sure that message makes it home with information packages that have been delivered to students in grades 1 to 3 . The packages include a “Fire Safety Starts with You” brochure and entry forms for two contests. One contest is province wide and offers a prize of a laptop computer, the other contest is for Prince George students, and will see four local children win the opportunity to be “Fire Chief for a Day”.
Perrault says getting the fire protection message out is a year ‘round job. They have made presentations to community and seniors’ groups with hopes of sharing the message with those who no longer, ( ore perhaps never did) have school aged children.
Fire Prevention Week in Prince George wraps up on Saturday the 13th with an engine and tender from Firehall #3 stationed outside the Home Depot. Fire Rescue members will be on scene to share fire safety information and pass some goodies on to the kids.
