Small Local Butcher Shops Not Affected By Beef Scare

Wednesday, October 3, 2012 @ 3:58 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Local butchers say they have not been adversely affected by the E-coli scare that is taking place with Alberta beef.
Local butcher shops say that traditionally the small guys have bought their beef from the Peace, Vanderhoof and Dawson Creek regions,  where  meat processing operations are located.
Ben Klassen of Homsteader Meats says "We buy all of our pork from the Peace ,a good part of our poultry also comes from the Peace along with traditionally a large component  of beef from that area of the province".
Klassen says the beef you are buying from the small independents normally comes from local slaughter houses.
The XL  meat processing operations out of Alberta have had their license  lifted because of the potential  for  E-coli contamination in  beef.   That plant  sold to  major food stores across the country,  with  the latest list of recalled items available by clicking here.
