Really? I’m not a religious person, but this is just goofy IMHO. What next, a throw back to the crusades and residential schools?
I agree NMG, I think this shows the Conservative’s true colours in a lot of ways. I know they say it’s about cost savings blah blah blah… but really, how much are they really saving on this?
If it was meant for true cost savings, eliminate ALL chaplains.
My wife and I were walking in Hart Highlands last Monday evening when one of the local pizza delivery drivers pulled over to warn us that he had just seen two black bears on the next street over. We thanked him for letting us know, he smiled and drove away. So, thank you to the well known pizza outlet for hiring an obviously caring and considerate young man to represent you.
Beyond the health and safety aspect of the XL Foods shut-down and meat product recall, one thing that sticks in my mind that is bothersome…
What a complete waste of the cattle. 680 tonnes of beef gave up their lives and now most will be tossed in the bin because of sloppy handling, and poor oversight by the Ministry of Agriculture.
I’m not a vegan (100% Omnivore), it just bothers me a lot that corporate greed can cause this much waste and their only response will be “sorry, my bad”. Nobody loses their jobs at the top, and they’ll continue to use imported workers.
If Harper gets rid of a few more Meat Inspectors then there would be no problem!
Gasoline prices 9 cents a liter cheaper in 100 Mile House and Clinton than PG.
I’m for gettin rid of all chaplains, not jut in the prison system where there are so many god-fearing inmates (!) but everywhere. It’s time humanity learned to shuck hat jive an think fo itself. Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, God, honesty in poliicians, it’s all the same. Get over it and have a nice life.
Oh, and hasn’t it been a beautiful autumn so far? Have a great weekend everyone.
Gas in Port Moody is 2.5 cents more than PG…. but we have a 15 cent / Litre tax PG doesn’t. Hmmmm….
Have an amazing long weekend everybody. Be safe.
Gas prices shot up to $1.26 a few weeks ago in Calgary, and now have fallen to $1.16. Meanwhile, when prices spike here, it takes forever for it to drop a couple of cents.
In other words, welcome to BC (Prince George) the land of gas gouging.
I here Costco is going to build the gas bar. The gasoline companies are putting it to us before hand.
I think we should pay more for gas. The oil barons will not have a business for ever. Therefore i think they should each make about $3 trillion dollars before all the oil runs out.
I was reading an article about the Costco gas bar (and it’s not a done deal yet from what I understand), and one thing I noted was that you needed to be a paid member of Costco to fuel up there.
I heard Costco is one of the biggest investors in the northern gateway pipeline project.
Should have been hear not here. Anyhow there was drilling in one area of the parking lot a week ago.
Sure helps keep the prices down in Kamloops but to bad they sell an ethenol blend. Lowers your mileage and power and not good for small engines. I see Esso is now using ethenol blends.
should be too not to…
Seamutt, as far as I know all gas sold is the 10% blend now with the exception of Chevron 94 octane.
I have lost 2 small engines to this blended fuel so far and a good 10% loss of fuel mileage in my vehicles as well. If someone would sell regular without the ethanol the would win me as a customer for life.
HabsFans I too live in Hart Highlands would it be possible to devulge more details, street and time.
So what does superstore sell that is not an ethonal blend?
Whywould Cheveron be the only place that sell an ethonal free blend?
Dosent most of the gas in our area come from Huskey? So would all the 94 octane be ethonal fee?
Just wondering
Cheers
I am a non-mechanic person, but I read that putting 94 octane in a small engine designed for 87 was a bad idea…. made the engine run too hot and inefficient.
Curious, I am, if that’s inaccurate.
Olddog: It was about 7:10 PM in the Killarney & Carlton Lane area. They probably ambled over from the ski hill.
With all the bears, too bad the dogs aren’t off leash anymore. Maybe that’s why in the older days we didn’t have bear problems. Dogs ran around their neighbourhoods, socialised with other dogs and when one smelled a bear or moose, they all went after it and chased it away.
One camp I was in, treeplanting, had eight dogs. When one smelled a bear, it was funny to see eight dogs trotting up the road to investigate like an army patrol. We didn’t have any bear problems.
The COs probably wouldn’t have to shoot too many bears if they had had a pack of dogs to chase them out. I believe word gets around pretty quickly in the animal kingdom about dangerous places to avoid.
Thanks HabsFans very close to my place I back onto the greenbelt off of Killarney and as I have set up a trail cam on known travel routes that is where they are coming from, The most unusual thing about these bears is that it is a sow and a yearling cub. Female black bears will most often “kick” their cubs out after one year but have been known to let one or two stay with them for one more year and this is the case for these two.And I have the photos to support this. And of course the reason they are coming into neighborhoods is because of garbage being left accessible. Here are Sept stats https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=433580316678213&set=a.120266078009640.8180.120263491343232&type=1&relevant_count=1
When dealing with the City of Prince George, we should review the quote of Donald Rumsfeld.
**There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are know unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we dont know. But there are also unkown unknowns. There are things we dont know we dont know.**
Soooooo.
What do we know about Monday night Oct 15th Council meeting to change the Playhouse theatre and PGGCC lands from P1 Parks and Recreation to Z8; Commercial Development??? Is the City positioning itself to demolish the Playhouse, thus creating a perceived need for a performing arts centre. I suspect that money from the sale of the playhouse will go towards the Citys portion of the PAC, along with other monies accumulated over the next 5 years, thus avoiding the need for an Alternative Approval Process, or a Referendum.
My understanding is that the PAC has been pushed back about 5 years so it would come before the public eye sometime in 2016/17 right after the winter games. This gives the City substantial time to sell off some property and funnel the money into the Capital Fund Reserve, so that they would have sufficient money for the PAC in 2016.
This of course would be at the expense of taxpayers who would have to continue to pay more taxes for road repair etc;
The City presently has a Core Review in progress, however its interesting to see what is not on the table.
1. Police and Fire
2. Borrowing
3. Land Reserve Fund
4. Capital Project.
5. CN Centre
6. Citys interest in Northern Sports Centre
These are things that cost us huge dollars.
What is on the table.
1. Reduction of staff, union and otherwise.
2. Sell off assets like Swimming Pools, Golf Course, Coliseum, Civic Centre, or contract them out.
3. Increase fines for bylaw enforcement.
4. Reduced snow removal, or garbage pick up.
Seems to me that the City is protecting their own self interests, and doing the cutting in the usual areas. As a result we will end up with more of the same. Huge debt, more Capital Projects, increased taxes and no improvements to infrastructure. Hmmmmmm.
This is reference to Ben’s article earlier this week about free speech and treating each other with respect on this forum…
The Van. Sun & Province also had an issue of people trashing each other on their story commenting system. Finally they had enough.
They switched over to a system where you have to log-in using a Facebook profile. This sure cleaned things up almost overnight.
I know, you can make a fake Facebook profile if you want to, but it’s an idea that might work well on this forum. Just a thought…
I heard thru the grapevine that Northland Dodge may perhaps be moving to the lands near the Playhouse.
Palopu, the City is looking at the Fire Department, I think because of staffing levels. From what I understand, the Core Review is looking at reducing the staffing at the fire halls.
Plylot Project, it’s too bad people can’t behave themselves. I would hate to see this site go to using Facebook profiles. I like being able to state my opinion without worrying about whether it will hurt our family business.
IMHO, and I have stated this numerous times, instead of reducing staffing levels at City Hall, reduce their pay. The rates of pay at City Hall are outrageous. When cashiers and janitors make $26+ per hour you know it’s not being paid by a for-profit business. They could easily make $20 per hour, retain their jobs and still be well paid for their professions.

Sort of. It actually runs a tiny bit cooler and will not give any gains in horsepower in an engine that was designed to run 87 octane. That being said since the chevron 94 octane is “pure” gasoline I am wondering if it might give me back my lost fuel mileage. I think I might run my next tank or two at 94 octane and find out.
Oops, posted that one twice. Sorry.
Not everyone has or wants a profile on facebook. I for one think it has way too many privacy issues. If it is anything like MSN, anything you say, do, post on that medium becomes the property of MSN. I would suspect facebook has a similiar clause if you look for it hard enough in the reams and reams of legaleze. Example, on MSN if you post a picture you have just signed over your copyright protection. MSN could theoretically take that picture and begin a multimillion dollars ad campaign using your picture and they wouldn’t be obligated to give you a penny.
The Core Review is looking at reducing staffing levels at the firhalls, however the general consensus is, is that the City, and Pr George residents want the level to remain the same, so I expect that there will be no change to the Fire Dept.
In fact I think it was nothing more than a loss leader.
LOL, that’s perfect Palopu … “loss leader”. Brillant :)
“I was reading an article about the Costco gas bar (and it’s not a done deal yet from what I understand), and one thing I noted was that you needed to be a paid member of Costco to fuel up there.”
Or course you would have to be a member but if you are buying gas there all the time your membership would techically be free if you were an Executive member. All those purchases would add up to enough cashback to cover it.
If Costco sells the fuel too cheap will the refinery supply them with fuel? If not they would have to find another fuel source. Maybe they could truck it in from the good ole USA from that little refinery just south of the border near Bellingham. That might stir things up!
@Pylot Project
Folks would just make fake Facebook accounts.
Chaplains and the like working in prisons? My tax dollars should not be spent to support other peoples religions. IMO. Church and state separate? Hmmmmm?
Canadian Tire may not sell ethenol blend as it is not stated on the pumps. I am going to ask next time in.
Front what I read, Canadian Tire gas does contain ethenol…
http://gasplus.canadiantire.ca/en/fuels/fuel-grades
actually, I’m going to correct myself a bit…. their site says “it may contain” ethenol, so maybe the PG station doesn’t.
Shell still sells a non-ethanol 92 octane fuel. It’s the only fuel I run in my bike. My truck runs pretty well on 87 octane but it’s brand new and is ‘supposedly’ built to handle the blend. Time will tell I guess….
They still have a no cellphone sticker on most gasoline pumps. Snopes.com. Type in gas pump/cell phone. Feel free to roll yer eyes.
