RDFFG Tests Its Emergency Operations

Prince George, B.C.- While the Prince George Airport was conducting a mock disaster this morning to test it’s emergency preparedness, the Regional District of Fraser Fort George held it’s own emergency operations centre test.
The scenario for the Regional District test was a hypothetical wildfire incident in the Pineview area. This event was more of a “table top exercise” without the drama of theatre arts students role playing as was the case at the airport ( see previous story)
“It’s important to test these plans on a regular basis so we can identify and eliminate any gaps in our planning, and respond more effectively in the event of a real emergency,” says Donna Munt, Director for the Regional District’s Emergency Operations Centre.
Munt says today’s Regional District exercise did expose some areas for improvement “For instance, it’s important to have an updated contact list to ensure you are able to get to the right person with the first phone call”.
There were numerous outside agencies involved in the Regional District exercise:
· Emergency Management British Columbia
· Pineview Volunteer Fire Department
· Ministry of Forests, with personnel from the PG Fire Centre and the PG Fire Zone
· Ministry of Transportation
· Prince George Fire Department
· Prince George
· RCMP
· Red Cross
· Emergency Social Services volunteers
“The scenario in the exercise was bigger than any real-life incident we have faced, so it was a good opportunity to test our communication between other agencies in responding to something like a large-scale fire,” says Munt. She says there will be an “after action” report written that will identify areas needing improvement or upgrades

I wonder how the inter-service radio communication was?
