Cariboo Cougars Defend Record this Weekend
Prince George, B.C. – The Cariboo Cougars are back home and put their perfect 4-0 record to the test against the Vancouver NE Chiefs today and tomorrow at CN Centre.
The Cats are coming off their first road weekend of the season where they battled from behind to win twice against the Valley West Hawks. The Chiefs are also coming off a successful weekend with a pair of wins over the Thompson Blazers including a 3-0 shutout last Saturday night.
The Chiefs early season success is in large part due to the play of BCMML leading scorer Mathew Barzal who has amassed 12 points in just four games. The 5’11" 170 pound forward was the first overall pick (Seattle) in the 2012 WHL Bantam draft.
The Cougars have scored just two more goals than the Chiefs through four games but have seen a much more balanced attack on offence. Braiden Epp leads the Cats in scoring with three goals and five assists. Liam Blackburn follows close behind with seven points while Brad Morrison has six as the three have proven themselves to be a powerful offensive threat.
This weekend’s series is a rematch of last year’s BCMML semi-final where the Cougars swept the Chiefs in two straight games to advance to the championship series. During the 2011-12 regular season, the Cats won the season series with the Chiefs 3-0-1.
Puckdrop this afternoon is set for 1:00pm with tomorrow’s rematch at 10:15am. Both games are at CN Centre.
