It needs to be said that “some” cyclists in this city ride like complete idiots. The figure they are on a bike and they can do what ever they want regardless of the traffic and weather conditions. Now in this situation, we don’t know what the full story is, and hope that the woman will be o.k. . But it still needs to be recognized that there are rules of the road that apply to cyclists as well as motorists.

More than once a sudden braking needed to be done to avoid one of these two wheeled cycling idiots riding off the sidewalk and into traffic (bearing in mind they are not to be on the sidewalk in the first place, this up holds my “idiot” statement).

There is lots of room to share the road with cyclists, but they need to realize they are not shielded by a force field, nor are they 6 feet wide, so moving over a bit won’t hurt them any. Ride a motorcycle and you soon realize that you need to be seen, as well a keeping your head on a swivel to avoid being a target.

I hope this woman will make a full recovery and have the chance to learn from this unfortunate incident.

There are many stupid cyclists out there, but stupid cyclists (or pedestrians) end up hurt. Stupid drivers end up hurting cyclists or pedestrians. That’s why those of us who choose greener and healthier transportation need to be careful…so we can stay healthy in the face of all the traffic we deal with!

The reality is that streets are narrow, people park on the shoulders, buses weave in and out to get to their stops, and cyclists have to somehow navigate amongst all the traffic. No wonder there are problems.

Not as bad as the gas powered bicycle that a guy in Quesnel rides, and on the sidewalks at that, with no respect for the pedestrians on those sidewalks. One of these days he’ll meet up with an old coot like me, and then he’s in trouble and he and his bike will be suffering from very extreme road rash.

It is so predictable: Every time a cyclist gets involved in a MVA and it is reported on this site, the whining hoards just can’t resist the opportunity to toss all cyclists under the bus.

Why is it deemed an opportunity to share your very own little grievance with everybody? When a motor vehicle accident is reported I don’t see diatribes detailing the problems with motorists in general.

lol… thanks for sharing your little grievance Styx. Browse around a little & you will find that this site is packed with complaints about motorists. Easily a top 5 topic.

Yup, I`m a part time cyclist and have witnessed some pretty dumb moves by more than a few cyclists.Just the other day I was pulling into a parking lot and some kid or guy just came barreling through a stop signal,he was lucky I was paying attention even though I had the right of way I do not always trust that traffic is not moving there`s always a chance someone is not paying attention themselves….all in all some folks should not have access to any kind of wheels what so ever…

I would like to see more ticketed for breaking the rules. Why is it okay for them to ride their bikes at night with dark clothing and no lights? And are they not supposed to go WITH the flow of traffic? There are many hazards a motorist has to watch for, as do cyclists and pedestrians. All groups have “idiots” in them.

Yeah some guy from the hood, who doesn’t have a license anymore is going to ensure he has a helmet on and reflective clothing? Get a clue “cyclists” aren’t just a monolithic group? Anyone has access to a bike at any age and is encouraged to try and ride with traffic.

I’m sure the RCMP is well aware of the ease at which tickets could be issued, but to a HUGE amount of people riding with NO regard for traffic laws, tickets mean nothing.

So some cyclists obey the laws, while others do not…? Wow newsflash.

Oh and when motorists begin to respect that kids may be on the side streets in residential neighbourhoods, parents will ensure their 4 year old doesn’t ride on the sidewalk.

What I get a kick out of is ‘parents’ teaching their young to stop and then ride ‘safely’ across the street in a crosswalk to the other sidewalk to continue on. Just like they don’t even know you’re not allowed to ride on sidewalks OR crosswalks.

Oh, and just WHERE at 20th and Victoria, do you get a picture like that? Maybe 20th and Pine.
