Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Spruce Kings opened a two-game home stand on a winning note Friday night.
In a battle of the Kings the hometown team had plenty of offensive chances through two periods and played a tight defensive game in the third to score a 2-1 victory over the Powell River Kings.
The visitors scored their lone goal in the opening frame, Jarryd Leung hitting the back of the net at the 17:24 mark. The period ended 1-0 Powell River. The Spruce Kings scored their pair in the middle period, Bryant Christian counting at 56 seconds and Justin Rai scoring the winner at 3:02.
Neither team did a thing on the power play. Powell River took seven minors while Prince George took four. Kirk Thompson picked up the victory as the Spruce Kings outshot Powell River 29-14.
So the Kings, with a 6-4-1 and 1 record for 14 points, now get set to host Surrey Saturday night at the Coliseum.
