Spruce Kings Make it a Four-Point Weekend

Saturday, October 13, 2012 @ 9:30 PM
Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Spruce Kings rode the hot goaltending of Kirk Thompson to a 3-0 victory over the Surrey Eagles in BC Hockey League action at the Coliseum Saturday night.

Thompson, who also notched the win in a 2-1 victory over Powell River Friday, stopped all 38 shots fired his way to record the shutout. He also had a lot of help from a defence that blocked shot after shot throughout the game. The Kings took 37 shots at the Eagles net.

Cam Lawson scored the lone goal of the first period at 18:06 to put the Spruce Kings up 1-0. Shots were even at 8 apiece. Then Shayne Morrissey scored the first goal of his BCHL career at 9:36 of the second period, that one coming on the power play. Lawson assisted on that tally and then notched his second of the game at 16:09 of the middle frame. The period ended 3-0 Kings. Each club took one minor penalty in the period and the Kings outshot Surrey 16-12.

The score sheet was clean in the third as Prince George controlled much of the play in wrapping up a complete game with a depleted bench.

The Spruce Kings are now 7-4-1 and 1, good for 16 points in the Mainland Division. Surrey trails the division with 11 points.

Two games on the road for the Kings next weekend. They play in Langley Friday, Coquitlam Saturday night.
